The sister must be pissed off that it took them 3 years to get there  :laughing4:

Honestly, i'm ready, ill go in a 10 year trip tomorrow. Ive been eyeing South America for a while now. All I have to do is figure out how to make money while travelling. :sip:

An inspiring story indeed. It does however depend on having the means to travel indefinitely while having a home to return to after 16 years. For most of us that would result in being homeless without any prospects.

However, as Jorust noted one day, itís a choice.

I remember reading about this trip in the BikeSA many years ago.
Those trips on the barges must have been very special. Guess the bikes hated it, they rigged a mist spray pump to cool the engine down a bit whilst powering the waterwheel.

I have quite a few books on overland/around-the-world trips. These include motorcycles, 4x4's and bicycles. The people that manage to maintain careers, are people that do it the way Michnus and Elsabe do it; travel for a period, then return home, work/save up, and then when leave & funds allow, do a next leg. The idea is to leave the bike/s in the last country that you visited, and then take it from there

Most of the travel books that I have, have been written by people that just upped and left. And as time goes by, they manage to find ways to fund their trips. Good example is Greame Bell and his family that have been travelling the world now for many years. (www.a2aexpedition.com)

I follow Michnus on instagram.
Nice if you don't have to work.
This is not life or death. It is an internet forum.
