RIP and condolences to friends and family.

Guys, depression is a real danger.
Don't underestimate it or its effect - especially over the long term if not addressed.
Get help. Talk to friends and family.
Get some meds to help you through.
You are not weak, just troubled.
Ride with buddies, not alone.
Go into Nature and just be still and listen to your surroundings.
Recalibrate.

What he said
May he now RIP - condolences to the family and friends - terrible end

Sage advice, however, easier said than done. I know.
Never hesitate to take that ride. Ride safe, ride often and ride far. The soul demands it.

Yeah I also initially read it as him just being found, although they said he had been found but they did not let on to any circumstances. If you look at the online comments on FB it actually started fights with people. Some commenting that they were so happy that he was found and how relieved they were for the family that he was ok only for someone else to comment on what a prick comment it was and how could they be so insensitive.

Its a tricky one, as a family you are looking for your loved one but you also don't want to share very personal details with the world.

Very sad indeed, strongs to the family during this really difficult time.R.I.P

My son has been loosing weight and had a few issues like appetite and headaches. I took him to the doc and had R2k worth of blood tests done, in the end he is very healthy but he was diagnosed with chronic depression, both of us were shocked at the diagnosis. I'm just glad we caught it and can now work on dealing with it. It can literally creep up on anyone.

I was diagnosed with severe depression at 26. Eventually the constant feelings of worthlessness and helplessness made sense. I've been on medication ever since and life is so much better!

Okes, get help. Feeling like that is not normal.

He just turned 21.

looking back I can see what I missed. With CV-19 and social media there was so little interaction that he withdrew and fell into depression. I've raised him from age 7 as a single dad and I think that when you are too close you miss the signs. I'm glad we went to the doc. the diagnosis is not what any parent wants to hear but rather hear it now before its too late. I'm the 1st to admit that I am not equipped to deal with depression, I don't understand it so its a big learning curve for me as well.

The documentary "The social Dilemma" emphasizes this a lot.

A little of topic sorry, but your comment made me think of the little girl they portrayed in the film,

The initial appeal for help in finding him mentioned that Sean Chapple was "vulnerable". Reference no doubt to the fact that his brother Brett, proprietor of a PE motorbike shop was recently deceased.

Very sad story. Peace to all his near ones.

Is to a way to determine if somebody depressed other than seeing a shrink?

Fuzzy, my boy who is the same age as yours has been having the same symptoms, went to the Dr on Monday for a bunch of tests, turns out to be an infection caused by severe allergies - dosen't sleep properly so is always tired and therefor dosen't exercise or get out the house, has been eating half his normal chow so has been losing weight which has affected his self image, all of this compounding in depression. CT has one of the highest pollen counts in the world, I told the Dr that he doesn't sneeze excessively and this is where the problem lies, the pollen collects in his sinuses and his body doesn't eject it like a normal  person which has led to the infection and subsequent symptoms, the post nasal drip is causing heartburn which is causing heart palpitations and feelings of anxiety. Not saying to disregard your Dr but maybe get a 2nd opinion. A Dr diagnosed my kid with clinical depression at 15 and a psychiatrist tried all the usual strong drugs on him which made him loopy, I refused to continue with the treatment and weened him off the drugs, got a 2nd opinion  - turned out to be normal teenage angst caused by a breakup and Heroin laced weed.
It's the end of the road as we know it and I feel fine.

Sadly, my experience with psychiatrist is that they see drugs as the first (only?) way to treat any condition.
I prefer psychologists who listen to the person and, if necessary, refer to a psychiatrist.
Yes, sometimes medication is required and can be prescribed by a GP too.
Life is far too short to be taken too seriously.
