Motor running rough. Booster Plug required?
« on: December 15, 2020, 05:02:32 pm »
So the client tells me that his bike's motor is running a little rough and has an oil leak.  What do you guys think the problem could be?  Do you think maybe a Booster Plug will sort out the rough running?  Here are some pics of the motor.

Booster plug should work for the rough idle but don't think it'll help with the oil leak

Yup.  Pratleys and a booster plug will sort it though!  :pot:

The customer phones and asks - How much for a service ? Cause the bike is running a little rough and has a bit of an oil leak.

or

Customer - How much for a service ?
can you collect the bike though - it is not running.

Then you phone the customer and quote him on a top end rebuild and he goes - but you said a service costs Rxxx

Well yes- I can replace the oil and filters and the sparkplugs etc - but it is not going to make the bike run again.

Looks like that rod was banging around for a while before it got to the point that it started running rough . Booster plug will fix it .

Nah.  The one bigend cap screw came loose and fell out.   Obviously then only had one screw holding the cap on, which would have meant it was only a matter of time before it snapped off.

If it were my bike, I would be paying BMW a visit for a refund.

Here is a view down the bolt hole.  Threads still perfectly intact, but minus the screw.

I would go visit the local BMW dealer with the photos. They must come to the party that one bolt was never torqued or got no locktite or both.
