Having spent most of the festive season at the coast with my family, I was itching to go on a proper trip before having to go back to work.

Decision was made to do a trip to @malmens gerrit ‘s Oppie Oewer outside Tzaneen. I plotted a challenging route and wasn’t keen to ride alone....... Enter Tobie, an ex MX racer who thinks he is still on a track when he gets on his 1190.......

We woke to a cold, wet morning in the Lowveld. Plan was to ride mostly dirt all the way to Tzaneen. It started raining as we left Nelspruit and continued well into the day.

We arrived in Pilgrim’s Rest and settled on the Royal Hotel’s buffet breakfast to fuel us for the day.

The are had good rain overnight and all the rivers and streams we encountered were breaking their banks.

From Pilgrim’s Rest we took the Vaalbank road and continued to Kaspersnek Pass.

Tobie took the lead and set a fast pace as we started the climb. I had to push hard to keep up with him.

The pass has deteriorated quite significantly since my last ride up around 18 months ago and it made for some exhilarating riding over challenging terrain.

We arrived at Oppie Oewer late afternoon and had a great evening catching up with @malmens gerrit and @BakgatJaco and his gang of merry men who were also staying over at Oppie Oewer

Next morning was cold and rainy again and we had to abandon our ride into the Wolkberg reserve.
