"KTM 690 airlifted out of Swartberg"
If (IF!) that is true then perhaps a contributing factor may (may!) be that the 690 Enduro (
was it an Enduro? But anyway, the SM has the same, ditto the 701) has a too-high first gear (KTM's standard-practice inheritance btw) compliments of the 690 Duke - which was (and always is!) first released.
That leaves a few KTM Enduro bikes with a road-rated first gear, hardly ideal, and is a most pronounced shortcoming on the 690 bikes!
To combat this I've shortened the overall gearing on my 701, it helps a bit... but is hardly ideal.
FOOI KTM!
