  The XT is slow, but only relatively.  It is slow against a 701 or a XR650R, but it is deceptively capable once you are on very technical terrain.

The XT has done most of the routes, in comfort, that I read you apparently can only really do on a 500.

Loaded with even my captain's folding chair.........

The route that I mentioned is about 900 kms.  Keeping in mind that most won't make the 50kms to Swartberg top in a day, I am a very tough man.

I would ride my under, under, over, over, Jap bike as opposed to sleeping out under the stars or airlifting my bike out any day. The piece of mind while riding the bike and not wondering if something will break also contributes greatly to the enjoyment of the ride. I suppose its horses for courses really

Was tempted to come join you on my 701, but "was" was now.... 
Most I ever done I think was 1000km - all tar on my F800Adv, speeding for the best part, to&fro Lesotho to collect my passport which I had forgotten (yeah, I'm lekker clever, I know...), but 'fun' wasn't really had that day....... not offroad thank you!

Reason for my question is that I've done 1200Km rides with my 525 over 3 days, without turning a bolt on it.
But is guess that does not count

Yes, as my bike was not flown out by helicopter, it is obviously more reliable. Nothing to do with a dik tril.

Yes, a very inexperienced rider thrown into very difficult terrain, with the bike as victim. But these youngsters are gutsy as hell.

Rufus, one of the trio told me just now that the bike may also have been geared up for road cruising by previous owner.

In sympathy to the lost Yamaha riders of Dakar 2021, you are also going around in circles

Adding a beefier clutch means more rotational mass etc etc
All to protect the bike from people that shouldn't be riding it in the 1st place.

Instead of spending your efforts criticizing 6/790 clutches, maybe start a riding school for your Jap tjommies?

You know, give something back to the community.

As long as you don't advocate to have these bikes 'fixed' as it would only lead to an overpriced, overweight, underpowered specimen.
