..is it possible...
« on: December 04, 2008, 10:38:18 am »
I booked my Drivers License test and they confirmed the date for 13th December 2008, but on my application it clearly states that my Learners License expires on 5th December 2008 (tomorrow, I know). Now I need to know is it possible for me to go for the test with an expired Learners License? Because I've got a booking, but I need a valid Learners License to do the test. Do you think I should just go and confirm today or tomorrow while it's still valid, or is there no way this test is going to happen?

I might be wrong, but if it expired, it expired...

You might slip it under the radar without them noticing, but I won't hold my breath.

Sorry - I know this isn't what you want to hear.

Don't they need to confirm that you actually have a learners before they book your licence?

I would actually take the time to go to the traffic dept. DO NOT speak to the penpusher.... speak to the Traffic chief or higher rank - and tell them the story of woe. They may well give you an ok - or even a letter to the licencing officer... or even call him to have a chat and explain?

Play open cards mate - under the radar - they catch you and they gonna nail you. You see how strict they have become just having the incorrect number plate!!

Good luck

There is always the alternative, more traditional method .... greet the examiner in a friendly, courteous manner and with a firm handshake

Most likely ...and it was valid when he did the booking ...but I doubt if they have the intellect to check that the booking is made before the expiry date

Go seem them in person and explain your predicament and ask them if they can't fit you in on the 5th before it expires.

Me thinks the answer will be. You had 6 months to make an appointment. You knew that your appointment was after the expiry date, why did you keep quiet, and now you want to make it our problem.
Sad, but it will be interesting to hear the outcome of this.
And even worse is that if they do help you, they will most likely fail you because of the inconvenience you caused them.

Good luck. I hope i am wrong

Think I'll try both your suggestions. All else fails, it's LL test time again. Serves me right being on my 2nd LL already.

Anyone got directions to Waltloo/Centurion testing station from Benoni? Also, where online can I see how they're going to test me (in case I have to do the test tomorrow I have to practise tonight)?

Can't say anything against how much time I had to make an appointment, I should have made it earlier. But I tried making use of their Emergency Appointment service and only got a reply this morning with the booking date.

I had this coming and should have saved myself the time and effort. Spoke to someone with rank, who told me that I had 18 months to do my license and that they don't give extensions (of even 8 days). He sounded quite upset that I got a confirmation with the DL test after the LL expiry date.
