It is sometimes better for a rookie to start his career on a non-factory spec bike.  Zeelenberg, as team manager, even limited Quartararo by an extra 50 revs during the first half of his rookie season.  Take season one as a learning curve year.

I am especially surprised at Aprilia's seeming struggle, as they have a great GP racing history.

In the smaller classes, yes but in the premier class, not so much.  Almost exactly like KTM.   ;)

Aprilia at least won with proper 2stroke race bikes, not EXC models with road tyres on. :pot:

KTM only has to win one championship and they will tie the mighty Ducati in the modern era.

Best Weather forecast: YR.no

Rain forecast for tomorrow again but Sunday is sunny and a dry race ... bummer to have to quali in the wet for a dry race but that is racing.

Not one Jap bike in the top 10 so far ..........................

Maybe they are "going backwards" or possibly just giving the others a chance to to be "contenders" ?  :laughing4:

FQ is a very good rider but his taking it easy approach in qualifying just shows he is not in the MM VR league yet. They would never play it safe and will always go for the best possible position.

I think you are reading way more in it than there is.  He has got a championship to loose, so why risk it?

One can argue that he lost the championship last year due to silly crashes.  Only a complete idiot would not learn from his mistakes.

And if he takes it to easy and finishes out of the points ?

He is not just simply taking it easy - he is managing risk vs reward in a mature fashion. He is also not a wet weather rider and has been struggling - if you have followed this return to Misano and practices you will know he has been very vocal about the situation and the Yamaha being "disastrous" in these mixed wet and drying conditions.
