just spoke with him - so pelvis is broken, rib trauma, hand bit farked.  said he will rather recover at home.

tried to open a case of 'roekelose en nalatige bestuur' against the oke - police refuse to open it at the station - useless. said they must go to Visagie street

What absolute bullshit!

+1

Crime, accidents etc can be reported at any police station.

They are obliged to take the complaint, register a docket/AR and then transfer to relevant police station. Just too bloody idle.

Just go to the commander and over his/her head if not satisfied.

Hi All

Thanks a lot lot for all the messages and prayers, really appreciated.

Both of us are discharged and trying to recover from home, will take some time and a lot of pills but will get there. Should be back on a bike in about 6 weeks. Riekie has 2 broken elbows, and needed surgery, she will probably stay away from me in future Valentine's days, and ( if she forgives me)  speak to me again in 2027. On my side lots of ached and pains, but main concern is a fractured pelvis which should keep me out of action for a while.

The 1290 will probably be irreparable. Except for the obvious damage to the front end, the frame is broken in 2 places just behind the steering stem. Will see what the guilty party's insurance have to say..  He's driving licence expired more than a year ago, so it is not guaranteed that they will pay out.

We stopped at the traffic light, with Boertjie on his 690 on my left, and accelerated normally down the road when this dude, coming from the side of the road, decided to make a u-turn where the island ends, over a painted island, without looking or any indication. There was no time for me to take evasive action, and also nowhere to go. Braking didnt help much either on the wet road, and I hit him solidly on the driver side door.

As to our experiences at Garsfontein Police station, it was more infuriating and painful than the accident and catheter procedure combined. I wish I had made a video. Incompetence, bad attitude, lack of knowledge, etc.. totally &$£% useless.

Thanks to the other bikers that stopped an offered assistance, and especially to Boertjie for taking charge of the situation, restraining Riekie, taking care of our belongings and the bike, and being with us all the time. Acted like a real platoon sergeant, did what was needed and more importantly, staying calm and focused on getting the job done.

Thanks again, will update if I hear anything regarding the insurance.

Glad you are back Eben, scary story. this is true an expired license is different from no license, he has a valid license it is just currently expired. Covid times also will help the claim.

Good to hear Eben.
I'm a bit confused about that pelvis though. Is it only cracked, but still held together well enough not to move around? Otherwise surely they would have had to pin it?
Hope it heels well in any way. If you need anything, let us know

Be careful, he probably needs a BJ with that cracked pelvis.  >:D
One day my orthopedic said “it’s fractured” I said broken or just cracked? He said “ does it matter”?
I had a fractured pelvis years ago, it wasn’t top of the scale, ribs hurt, fractured skull doesn’t hurt. 🙄
