Privileged to have been invited on another of Just Blip It! s  amazing trips. This time to Guernsey Nature reserve bordering the Timbavati

We rode, we laughed, we got heatstroke .....and had the time of our lives!

5 bikes...4 Nomad Bags...!

This gladdens my heart...dirty riders, dirty bikes, proper routes and Nomad Bike Bags well represented.

Looks like a weekend extremely well spent...!

Temps were around 38 degrees and it was extremely humid. Wrestling big bikes down and climbing back up the embankment 6 times took its toll and we were all exhausted.

An overflowing reservoir was a welcome relief from the extreme heat

I started struggling with nausea and was exhausted......mostly due to the heat.

The weather forecast said that we were in for a scorcher.....

We fuelled up in Hoedspruit and the head out towards The Oaks. Mark plotted a fantastic track that was going to take us all the way to Lekgalameetsi.

It soon became clear that the heat was going to be a problem. Byron was having a tough time again and really suffering in the heat.

Some guys got stuck and a few fell over. Japie and I turned back to fetch Byron and his bike. Henry got stuck and got left behind. Japie and Eugene went back again to assist.

Rest of us ended up under a tree in the shade. We were absolutely knackered after a tiny bit of the days route. The difficult decision was made to call it a day.... it was not safe riding in such heat.

It was 38 degrees in the shade....43 in the sun and not even midday yet..... add to that 90% humidity and storm clouds building.....

We knew that there would be damage to the the fence road. The short bit we rode was almost impassable in several spots
Mitchels pass in Hogsback often looks like your pics.

How did it get the name btw? For a moment I thought you were on Geurnsey island, dad was born there.

No idea......
