I have spent some time in Iran, work related. I didn't drive myself but since my work involves going to remote mining sites,.i did see a bit of.the country. It is great. English unfortunately not widely spoken. South Africans generally welcome, since we helped Iran with oil sanction busting. People are great. But learn beforehand what is good behaviour and what can get you into serious kak. Respect Islam (when done right, it is a beautiful religion). Roads are excellent, way better than SA. It's not a country of insane ragheads going ape, as portayed by western media. People are well educated, highly cultured and proud of their Persian heritage. Their culture is the origin of most western bloodlines and indeed culture as well. There are heaps that I still want to see. One will need more than a month to do justice to the geographic variety and cultural depth. I'd love to take my wife on a long holiday there. My perception was that corruption is not really practiced, so I would be wary of trying shortcuts.
