Sani Pass
« on: March 30, 2021, 12:39:45 pm »
So Sani Pass might not be the most dangerous or most difficult pass in SA but remains one of the iconic passes for adventure riding and it is on most adventure riders bucket list. I've done it various times, in good conditions, in snow and with a pillion. Please share your experience even if you did fall over or had to turn back, Attached picture was on the way to a KTM rally raid in snow and wet conditions. what a challenge.....

Did it in 2018 - was tricky but not insurmountable.... cooked the KTM brake fluid on the back so required a few cooling down stops... but was in a lot better condition than it appears to be now.... enjoyed it..

I would love to do the Sani pass......but my meneer is also big enough for me to admit that I don't want to do it in the current condition, unlike those okes who tells everyone that they did the the Sani pass on their back wheel in 5minutes flat, while driving next to the road while taking selfies of themselves as the road condition was not technical enough for there advance level of riding.  :peepwall: :pot: :imaposer:

I went up with my wife in 2017 December on a GN125.

Pass was in a good condition, besides for lack of horsepower we managed quite easily, even with plakkies  :pot:

Went down on my own as it was too cold for the Missus.

The Land Cruiser club were just behind us they winched it up in no time and it was ridden back to Jo,burg same day.

On the way up, I was on my way back through the border to Himeville to reseat the bead on the Heidi  :sip: had a flat as well (reinforcing spikes on the concrete erosion strips) but I fixed it, I went through the SA border 3 times before getting to Lesotho. :sip:
