990 Values
« on: May 28, 2021, 10:43:45 am »
Seen a few 990s for sale lately, '09s and little newer non R models advertised for R100k+, I bought my '09 R 3yrs ago at R85k, she is in almost immaculate condition but I reckon real value is about R75k. I understand that they have a somewhat cult status but this pricing puts a 2015ish 1190R in range, you guys reckon this appreciation or lack of depreciation is sustainable? If so, I'll vacuum seal mine and leave it for a few years, a better investment than crypto it seems ;)
No, I'm not selling mine, you can't sell your best bud.
It's the end of the road as we know it and I feel fine.

Noticed same, not sure why though but reckon guys are realising future value and cult status of these bikes..... I also bought my 08 in 2018 with 11,056km, now has 42,000km on odo coz I just cannot get enough of the thing.... The 1190 might be more powerful, but parked next to a 990 no-one even takes notice of the 1190, see it all the time here in our parking lot with 2 990's parked next to a 1190.....  ;)

Agreed, this is an attempt to manipulate the market to drive the prices down so that I can afford to add a 2nd

They advertise, but don't sell at those prices.

I'm also eyeing a 990 to add to my 1150gsa and have noticed the pricing, but most of them have high mileage too

Agree

Some very unrealistic asking prices all around. Bought a beautiful 990S last year for R67k and a few months ago another one for R80k, which is more  realistic imho. Non S or R models at inflated prices just donít sellÖ.

I have seen it a couple of times and bought mine like that.

If your initial asking price is to high people have no interest in it - and then the price drops start and it keeps dropping until it is less than it should be.

Bought mine for cheap because the original asking price was way to high and ended selling for under what it was worth.

Very important to price it right from the start - leaving a little bit of space for negotiations. Otherwise withdraw it form the market and sell it later again at a better initial listing price.

Agreed, but it's the reverse, except maybe for the Defender.

Ktms are advertised at those prices, but don't necessarily sell at those prices. The ones on FB marketplace ain't selling for sure.

You folks are spoiled with your 990S prices.

They are sought after over here.
After months of searching, I found a 2008 38000km, for close to Ä7000

We saw it with the Honda Africa Twin.. for years they were overpriced because the next models that Honda bought out were the Transalp and the NC.. everyone wanted an Africa Twin so they were always expensive with legend tax.. until the new Twin came out, then the old Africa Twin values dropped like a stone in a pond.

So you have to wait until KTM brings out something decent  :peepwall:

Ha ha, yeah Fuzz, I'm thinking about that 'cliff' specifically, I think the 890 could be the bike that does that to the 990, what could keep the 990 as a cliff-hanger is KTM's recent decision to start production in China, I see that the 490 and a few others will be made there as a start. I can't afford new bikes and don't want a 2nd hand one made in China...
