WD Hiking Activity
« on: June 13, 2021, 10:41:09 am »
Hi, I've taken up hiking and become rather fond of it over the last few months, rain or shine, I'm out on a trail every Saturday. Use this platform to share your own awesome experiences, here's mine from yesterday - Hidding's Ascension.

It's the end of the road as we know it and I feel fine.

We love hiking. Will post some pics.

Lekker Cappie, I'm 117kg and my knees kak really bad for a few days after a hike, hence the blue knee thingies in the pics, It's apparently called 'runner's knee', it can be overcome by strengthening the quads so I'm doing leg-presses and squats in the gym.

Rustig - West of Harties in the Magalies mountain range. 13km hike, with some nice climbs until you are on top of the range and a stiff climb down.

Awesome VM! That looks kiff and is a relative stone throw from the city. I far prefer the ups to the downs, I can climb all day but the descents moer my joints stukkend.

Descents are hard on the joints, and if you do lekker long rocky descent it works your heels as well. But well worth the outing.

April 2019 we did a hike around an active volcano on Reunion Island - we couldn't get as close as we wanted as it was spewing ash and rocks the time. Very different landscapes, real crater made by millennia of activity.

Also enjoy hiking and part of a few groups. We also did the 13km hike at Rustig a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. we have two proper hikes planned in the next year:
In July we doing the 45km Kruger hike (this should be proper tough with tents) and everythign going in coming out.
In Feb next year I have an Otter trail booking. Cant wait for that.

I was lucky enough to see it erupt back in around 1996/97 the lava was flowing at about walking pace across the road

20km is not for the faint hearted, I did a 10km hike through the Knysna forest in Dec and that was pushing my sense of humour

I've done table mountain a few times but the decent simply kills my knees, I have to pop anti inflams like they are smarties, now I stick to the pipe track and flatish hikes.

Self lief vir stap maar alleen. Het nog nooit saam met ander mense gestap nie.
Al my staptogte was op die beach langs die see af meestal.
Oos Londen PE toe gestap.
PE Jeffries toe gestap n hele paar keer.
Dag stappe was nie eintlik my ding nie
As time washes by, our footprints are all for naught
The left is full of people who have been educated far beyond their intelligence
