New Triumph 1200 being tested in SA
« on: June 14, 2021, 03:09:59 am »
Maybe this is old news, and maybe Donovan (if he still dwell on the board) can give us more.

What I gather is that it's small, new engine based on the 1050 Sprint (now 1160cc) and double sided swing arm.
Lighter, easy access airfilter? (Hope) and a lot more.

Got some here:  https://livingwithgravity.com/what-do-see-in-the-new-2021-triumph-tiger-1200/:

My son spotted one in Brits area and I immediately thought it may be Donovan.
Yes I'm still a Triumph fan after all these years and my all time favorite was the 1050 Sprint.
I loved that midnight blue bike so much and often thought to try and source a good second hand model again.
Sadly Triumph is not well represented in SA, why did KMSA let them go...pok

For anyone that never rode the 1050 and the 1200
It is 2 completely different motors
The 1050 is just in my view the best and most refined triple ever.

Tom you are right. I have a 800 XCX as well as a 1050 Speed Triple. The 800 is no slouch but the 1050 will be frightening in an Dual Sport !!

From Tom van Brits: "The 1050 is just in my view the best and most refined triple ever."

Agreed  :thumleft:

I am biased, but the 1050 motor is a great motor, smooth, responsive and very willing. I own a Sprint 1050ST and it is one of the best bikes I have owned to date.
There is something about these Triple motors that is just awesome.
The new 900 Tiger is a really great bike too, I like the 1200 Explorer but it is just not for me, as far as dirt riding is concerned.

Triumph are underrated bikes on the whole.  :thumleft:

The new Tiger will no doubt be a huge improvement on the current model, using the stronger and lighter 1160 triple engine and a re - worked frame and suspension. I am a big fan of Triumph and the brand's minimalistic approach ( on previous models ), aligned with excellent build quality and a peach of a torquey triple engine. The opening of a new outlet in Pretoria is good news Tom 👍
