Contacted BMW Stellenbosch for a quote on the starter relay:

R747ex VAT, imported product, lead time 3 - 4 weeks.

I also asked for a quote to do an overhaul on the electrical wiring before going ahead to make 100% it is not something else causing the issue.

Awaiting feedback from them.

Maybe ask them how much it cost for an assessment? Instead of redoing all the electronics, just the labour fee to assess everything?

Booking made by Motorrad Cape Town for Wednesday. Hopefully, we can pinpoint that it is indeed the starter relay and not something else.

Seems that we are back to square one, the stator is the issue again according to BMW.

Isolation inside the stator (blacks caps) broke off and cause damage inside the flywheel... The winding on the top burned in the process as well. To be honest, I am not so impressed by Schipper & Sons and feel this could have been avoided. Anyways, the stator is back at them but they are still busy with it and cannot give an ETA.

Meanwhile, BMW is waiting on the stator to continue troubleshooting the cause. I have ordered a new sprocket and chain kit from Race Parts since BMW doesn't carry any stock.

Crossing fingers for your bike Andrew. If these bikes run, they are plenty of fun.

Thanks @Hingsding, I am hoping so too... I have only been able to add 500km on this bike since owning it back in June - had problems from day one, so haven't had the opportunity to fully enjoy this machine.

Yeah, it still feels surreal, to be honest.

Picked up the bike on Wednesday from Donford and was very impressed with the service I got and the bike was running flawlessly.

At the end of the day @ravingDIODE mentioned the deal about the G650X we posted on our riding group and stated if he had the money, he would have purchased it for himself. Our friend @chheunis shared a bike of his friend up in Johannesburg: 2007 BMW G650X Challenge with a few upgrades (centre stand, shorty levers, upgraded rear shock), 11 000km on the clock for R30 000. The bike was standing for 2-years but all in order, since he owns a GS1200 as well.

Fast forward the next morning and I took a chance with WeBuyCars and lo and behold they offered me R30 000 for my G450X, allowing me to purchase the G650X the same day. Best of all, this happened on my birthday, so it was the best gift ever.

I used https://www.sabiketransport.co.za/ to get the bike to me. They quoted me R2800 and the bike was picked up the same evening and delivered to my house this afternoon, super fast service!

The smile on my face told the whole story of how I felt, I was so happy and it is such an amazing machine! Finally, I can keep up with @ravingDIODE on his GS800 and so much comfortable on the highway. Cannot wait for the adventures that lie ahead for our riding group. Next week I am going to make a plan to get proper riding boots to go with the bike.

Must also give a shoutout to the seller, he did so much effort with getting the paperwork sorted as well as included extras with the bike. The process was painless!

I am truly thankful that everything worked out so perfectly, I could honestly not believe it.

May well be a more suitable and reliable bike for the type of DS adventure riding you are looking at. And a solid bulletproof engine.  :ricky:

Well done - I have a GX that I absolutely love - its a light mid-power Adv bike, handles just about anything you can chuck at it, huge fun to ride, even if its not the latest tech, its a seriously good piece of kit....

Congratulations, many happy km, you will love it!
