My K6 is 14 years old

In 2006 I bought my last new bike , a SUZUKI GSXR1000 K6 , one of my requirements at the time was that I wanted the bike in the box , I wanted to take it out the box , do the pdi and everything myself ( own a bike shop ) and this is how my relation ship with this bike started . New blue & white k6 out of the box . Removed the stock exhaust even before the bike  had petrol in it , fitted a tri oval Japanese spec Yoshi with dual out let . removed the mirrors as I did not like the look of the bike with the mirrors fitted , retrofitted the front indicators into the headlight , used the park light positions , changed  orange globe.
Now 14 years later I still enjoy riding the bike , its has become my daily commute bike , this was after one of my clients begged my 200 cc big boy bike from me  :ricky:. Decided that the bike was just standing in my garage and buying another commuter would be a waste of money , this bike was paid for , and not being used ,Main reason was that my partner did not enjoy the speed anymore as well as going around corners  where she could nearly touch the road  :peepwall:
As time went by , thing wear and my chain needed changing , also have a need for new front brake disks . and tyres and a service and . so I started to compromise , Ride easy its no race to work , but X race tires, cheap and last ok . But eventually my supply of x race tyres dried up and I had to fit  a set of new tyres , had no choice , Decided to fit a set of BATT HP tyres , my hart was set on a set of Metzeler M1 RACE , but mind won , so a set of Hps was fitted , must admit they are great commuter tyres , I have done close to 30k kilos on them and have maybe 50% to go on the rear , riding at about 115 kph on the high way . Next bit of craze info is that I just serviced the bike at 86000 kilos , and replaced the chain and sprockets , FOR THE FIRST TIME , yes 86000 kilos on the OEM chain & sprockets , yes they were SHOT ,and  required replacement about a year ago , but it is what it is .
In closing if you are commuting with your bike , and need to fit tyres , visit BIKE TYRE WHAREHOUSE , for a set of BATT HPs . lube your chain every week , it will last longer , and maybe run it slightly loose . ( just )

Interesting read, I often wonder about chain lube and the cost of it

If you lube your chain regularly do you not eventually spend the same money as you would replacing the chain and sprockets sooner from not lubricating?

And aren't all the chains sealed these days?

Truly epic machines, even the old "fat" gixxers from the 90's were incredible machines.

K6 has one hell of an engine, probably the best Zook vroom vroom ever.

There is just something magical about big bore Suzuki straight 4`s.
Partly because they thrive on abuse, but it is more the way it delivers it power.
And the K5/K6 long stroke motor is still loved the whole world over.

The K5 engine lives on in the GSX-S1000 and Katana format,  in a retuned state.
You can go read up on the rave reviews about the engine, apart from the snatchy off on throttle at low speeds (due to emission curb, cutting the fuel supply off and then squirting again when the throttle gets opened)

And it's a Bike you won't lose money on if you keep it in good nick.

Arguably, I'd say the k6  750 is the model to have but they all good. My good friend Yolandi is riding a k6 600 and it still screams at the track. I rode it the other day and really loved it's easy handling and manner.

Great bikes! Well done for so many years of care and attention to the icon of its era. 

As I understand it, the original BMW s1000rr was based of this platform....and it reigned the 1litre class for about seven years.

I was the proud owner of a K6 750.
Also commuted Strand to CT for years on it and its predecessor a 98 R1.
Gettng on the deserted N2 @ 6 oclock at the Mall and opening them up past Macassar was the highlight of my dreary days
Sadly I wrote it off at the end of the pit straight on a track day.

Many moons ago i rode a Honda CBX 79 model, but kakked to get the services done in a few days because of parts. One evening at Bavarian in P town Simon pitched up and around a beer asked what i should buy that would not break. His answer, go to a rally and see what the hooligans cant break cause you will never break that. Rode Bandit 1200's from then until the Blackbird came along.
