Barking along the fence while the gate is open .
« on: June 29, 2021, 07:00:14 am »
Not wanting to highjack another thread and guilty of my comment as well I just want to think out load , by posting a new thought . I think many guys here are in a similar boat , we have a itch to go for a ride , but something is holding us back . like dogs running up and down the fence barking at stuff out side while the gate is wide open .
I try to always find a reason to go in stead of a reason not to go. Yes money is tight and dew to us not sure of how things are going to turn out in the near future we are holding back . not keen to end up in a position that we end up saying if only I did not take the gap out went out the open gate to go bark at the passing car , chase the ice cream man  :lol8:
But if we were to make up a group of like minded 'dogs " plan a weekend ride to somewhere , share accommodation , itches can be scratched , good times could be had and it might not cost the earth .
So if you keen lets talk , make some plans , meet new potential friends , and go for a weekend ride .

Norrafok..... Not while 123 of my mates all have Covid...... I am isolating out of pure fear now - with my beer & whisky stock..... ;)
But to be fair, I REALLY need to get out, so in a few weeks, I might need to actually quietly pack the XC and make a sneaky move somewhere....
Where you thinking?

Seen the same reluctance in my little sailing world to untie and just go. There is always something (excuse) that is just not right.
Because we are uncertain we believe there is safety in numbers. Not so at all. I am always surprised when big boat owners come to
me asking me if they can go with next time. Quietly on the side. Often irritated with myself and my reluctance to sometimes escape my comfort zone.
Go do that ride, set a date and go. If some friends go with even better :thumleft: :ricky:

At the moment, my bike is staying parked. I'm not even riding alone.   A little whoopsie and something as simple as a twisted knee or wrist  could be a disaster the way the hospital system is struggling currently.

I'm doing everything I can to not need a hospital at the moment.

I agree..... us WD boys here in the Midlands often sommer go for a day ride.... 150 - 300km.
one of the advantages here is that there're lekker roads everywhere, and it's easy to just go.
I think for the guys in big towns, it takes some distance to get into the wild open spaces, and this tends to make them think twice before riding.
I live in my own world...
But it's ok... they know me there!

I had "The Itch" on Sunday (pre lockdown)
Just got on the Traffic Cone and rode.
Met up with some friends for some liquid replenishments.

Then, being out on a remote farm, I started the 100km + trip back home.
But no tar............just glorious dirt back-roads.

Riding at night really gives one a new perspective on bike freedom.

Man!!!!
The Itch has been scratched............until next time.

@dookie  - riding dirt roads at night is just about as much fun as it can get - its an absolute blast, you can truly only see the cone of light in front of you, zero idea whats 5m away - its epic!
We once did the Dome Route at Full Moon in Mid-winter - it was fucking freezing, but what an epic ride - i was 2-up on a 1200GSA.... Back at the cottages, the owners had made us braaibroodjies and coffee with a nip when we got back, fok was maar lekker!!

Alles is nou vrees gedrewe weens COVID; oral waar ek kyk (en lees op die forum). So baie leef in vrees!!
