Show us your helmet damage
« on: July 04, 2021, 09:20:49 am »
Riding with @Just Blip It! yesterday, his MotoZ rear tyre picked up a rock roughly the size of a tennis ball , catapulted it about 20-30m into the air and landed on my Arai helmet riding 50-80m further back. All happened in slow motion and I still can’t believe it actually hit me. Was a massive impact and exposed the fibres of the helmet

Mine from last month's accident. Was cruising along nicely and then suddenly came down head first on a gravel road near Steytlerville after hitting a duiker.

Is the consensus that this helmet should be scrapped?

A month or 2 after getting my first "Real"  bike (990 SMT).  Hadn't slept much, late for work, took the bike to miss the traffic.   Some dickhead turned right across me on Grayston drive, either pulling a u-turn or going into a complex across the street.

Last thing I remember was the rear brake locking.   Dunno how many minutes later I woke up wondering why I was hearing weird voices of other people in my bedroom.  I was actually lying on the pavement, after some security guards from the complex pulled me out the street.  Nobody stopped. Not a soul. 8am, a block from the entrance of Investec's head office.

Earned me a nice concussion, and a week in hospital with 2 broken hands and 1 broken foot.    I do remember the paramedic that picked me up being very pretty though.

This is why I don't mess with open face or modular helmets also.

Fuzzy..... scrap that helmet!...... not worth taking a risk. It'll probably split with the next impact. Your head's not worth taking a risk with a compromised "sletterpet!" :eek7: :3some:

Yeah I hear a lot about helmets potentially splitting on next impact. I am certain that there are instances where this would be true . Where is the line drawn or is it just a given that once you fall its burnt toast?

If I have a R8k helmet and I'm not insured and it gets some scratches in a fall , i'm not so keen to just throw it away. I understand if it was an impact which would change the integrity of the helmets structure, ie: cracked right through
but if its just scratches?

Does everyone just replace to be safe ?
