Sportbike itch
« on: July 11, 2021, 06:02:51 pm »
So I have an itch to buy a sportbike.

Having started off biking on a KLR and having a Harley Sportster and a Triumph Tiger the one class I haven't even riden is a sportbike.

So what should I look at?  I'm a normal size 6 ft 4 115kg South African lad.

I don't want to go super fast and want something that looks awesome and that I can fit on ok.

Advice?

Thanks all.

I would have said BMW 1100s, but at 6'2" I just fit on it. Think it will be bit tight for you. Friend of mine has a Triumph 1050 Sprint he might sell. He is also around very tall and it fits him nicely. Very nice bike and nothing sounds like that tripple.

Build a sidecar they said. It will be fun they said. Ja-nee !

Or SV1000. I've seen it leave a Busa behind until about 280km/h, then it looks for parking  :lol8:

This, along with S100RR, Gixxers, ZX's, etc are all superbikes, while the hayabusa is a sports tourer. More comfy than the hyperbikes, but as powerful.

No, no, no, you can't rev these at a rally, they'll pop.

1290 se hol val uit by 240.

I have the same itch but my pockets are empty due to other projects, when things change I'm dropping a tote bag full of cash on a BMW dealer's desk in exchange for a S1000RR. Good luck with the decision, start doing some push-ups - the riding position on these things is very different, forearms get pumped quickly.
It's the end of the road as we know it and I feel fine.

I used to love my R1 of many years ago.
Sadly I am now too spoiled by many years of riding dual sports and am just not prepared to be seated hunched up, knees tucked  under my armpits with a 300km/h wind hitting me straight in the visor.

A while back I rode a Cbr600. Once again that high revving 4 cylinder was a thrill to the senses, but oh man, having to peer under the side mirrors of cars I was trying to lane split through , spoiled the experience.

It sadly just reinforced why a superbike probably won’t ever be in my garage again.

I also love sportbikes, I owned several back in the day, but I found I had the most fun, not on the liter sized bikes, but the two ZX6R's I owned.

It was more fun to wring the necks of the smaller engined bikes than the effortless power the liter bikes offered.

Same thing during track-days.  The 600's were so much more fun than the too powerful 1000's.

Just my opinion though, some prefer the torque the 1,000's and larger bikes produce.
