I've been watching this guy's video series, traveling through Africa - not sure if it has been posted.
Quite amazing the way he does it. He has no GPS and basically follows the heading he needs to go. In the process, he tries he's utmost to avoid the main roads and as a result, travels through places very few foreigners get to and he mostly camps. He gets lost, follows game tracks through the bush, etc - quite a pair of balls he has.
His "never say die" attitude and perseverance is quite amazing, although, at times, I'd like to think he's simply dof.
Another eye opener, is the incredible reliability and toughness of his Honda Transalp.
At some stage, the narrative changes changes from English to Spanish, so you have to read the subtitles - and this dude speaks in 5th gear! Enjoy:
