Info on Chain Reaction MCC anyone?
« on: August 31, 2021, 11:01:56 am »
Morning everybody.

The son (<25) of a friend got approached this weekend to join the Chain Reaction MCC.  Dad is not a biker and knows nothing at all about any Clubs.

Apparently the son had fun as they seem to have gone pub crawling by bike.  But the dad can not find any info other that a Facebook page.  Are there anyone on her that may be a member or had dealings with them.

My idea is that at working age the junior must make his own decisions.  But my friend want information so that the youngster can make an informed decision.

Pub Crawling by bike or car is risky business... just some advice from an old toppie with scars... :sip:

Bike clubs are not for me, but let`s see what the others have to say  :sip:

Edit: why would a club recruit?

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

My son rides bike.. so it takes careful consideration

I know clubs. and agreed not all are bad, but there is a common theme of speed, showing off and drinking. There is also a common theme of friendship, comradery and bikes..

For me the risk within a club is higher simply due to the nature of trying to be one of the boys.

I don't know that specific club but as a dad with a son who rides, I would only agree on that if I could go with and checkout the culture of the club.

I only have one son, i'm not loosing him to dying on the road on a bike.

Dad is not a biker and knows nothing at all about any Clubs.

..... but he should know 1 thing, and 1 only: that bikes & drinking don't mix!

Then add the peer pressure environment (club!) & his (young) age and let him judge himself....

Sure, I also have a beer when riding offroad somewhere rural, it's the best rehydrate there is.
But I've never pubcrawled per bike yet, let alone as a member of a club... that's evolution in action.

Pub crawling in my opinion is a suicidal tendency , alcohol and wheels do not mix , and being a youngster there is very much the peer pressure thing  which can be disastrous

There was quite a lengthy discussion about MC's a while back.
I am a member of a MC - just some info:

1. There is a tendency to move away from "Day Jols" to "sleepovers" - to address the drinking and riding problem.
2. All properly organized Clubs have a Road Captain. One of his duties is to TRY and ensure that members don't ride when pissed - he has the power to confiscate
    keys.
3. No Club likes to lose members in accidents. Should there be a repeat offender (some endanger other members just with his riding style), he will be dealt with.
4. Not familiar with Chain Reaction. Try to establish whether they belong to your regional Presidents Council. Eg. we are part of the VPC (Vaal Presidents Council).
