Fallen biker in dire need of O- blood
« on: September 09, 2021, 09:15:38 am »
Hey guys, a guy by the name of Gareth was critically injured in Lidgetton on 6th September. It turns out that he in dire need of O- blood, please do a shout out to whomever here, the situation is apparently dire.

Quote - " Howzit guys, need your help please. Gareth has internal bleeding and needs blood urgently! He is O- and there is nothing available in Natal they say. Please get in touch with me 072 810 3301 - Friedel "

I hope I'm not out of line by displaying that message. This guy is an old friend of my partner's daughter so I'm assuming it is all true and legit.

O neg can only receive O neg, but can donate to all types.
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

EesBee - Im AB+ (Pretoria) and as I understand it my blood can be used by all other recipients. If you not sorted and my blood can be used you are more than welcome to contact me and we can make arrangements.

Thanks all.

Guys, I cannot answer any questions as to the modus operandi here, I'm only being a messenger, but apparently there are a few people at SANBS Pietermaritzburg donating for Gareth. I got a lady from my neighbourhood watch whatsapp group make contact with whomever and they told her to make her way to SANBS Pmb. She says Gareth is in Hilton hospital which is closest to where the MVA occured.

@IDR yes, I learnt that now myself.

Yup. I donate often for that reason, as O neg is always in demand.

We O neg lot are a bit in the shit when things go wrong.

I'm O- and in Underberg, but I donated last week, sorry  ::)

They can't use first time donors for transfusions, they only use regular donors who have a screening history. That is why it is important to donate regularly if you want to make a difference.

The afternoon / night of my taxi encounter I used 11 units of blood, and a number more in the weeks to follow - one of the reasons that I am still alive today. I'd recommend getting into the habit of donating if you ride a bike, one day you may really need it.
