« on: September 27, 2021, 06:27:46 pm »
Good day fellow Honde.

Does anyone know the 640 adventure for sale at podium motorcycles?

A mate is interested.

Please DM me if you need to spill any beans.

We will be very grateful for pointers and feedback regarding bike and dealer.

Have a peaceful evening

What year model do they claim it is?
The pics of the left side are too unclear to see much. I would guess 2003/4, it looks like it has a hydraulic clutch but I can't see the left footpeg.
On those year models, the left has a different clevis than the right. I see it has a sidestand and center stand, unusual  if it has that footpeg arrangement, and sidestand might not be as sturdy as you would like.

The back half plastics are aftermarket (but do look good), as of course the dash arrangement.

Probably a cost versus risk situation.

Fairly overpriced for year model.  Has normal front shocks instead of upside downers which is a turn off for most younger hard core riders.

The bike does appeal to my mate who is of an "older vintage".  He appreciates the condition and quirkiness of the bike combined with the cult status and offroad ability.

The first 640's did not have USD forks, and this looks like the normal 620/640 scrambler with some adventure bits on.

No man, Jimmi looked at a KTM. Now we all know that someone who looks at a KTM should be rescued, but slowly and one step at a time, First a DR, then when he's ready, a T7. :pot:

Facts of life!

But he'll appreciate the T7 more after owning/pushing that 640/620! Boat anchor comes to mind.

Apart from some newer bits like the modern fender this is guaranteed a 98 (first year in SA) or 99. My 640 looks almost identical and is a 99 model. From 2000 they came in orange and silver.

I had one just like that, a '98 model. Came out of the factory with those conventional forks, and rear plastics. Despite the "normal" as opposed to upside down forks, the suspension is excellent. The 640 engine was later upgraded; I think it was called the "High-Flow" motor, or something like that.

Both my 640 Enduro (a great bike) and 640 Adventure with that motor had massive engine failures, but only after I sold them. They served me well, but I know of 2 guys who think they are shite.

'69 Model.

Couple of engine failures and wiring chafing through from vibration is all part of the character. I will be more worried about the stock speedo being MIA, how many kmís on this bike ?
