Back to Honda ……
« on: October 05, 2021, 10:19:36 pm »
So I kept my part of the bargain and got rid of enough bikes to make way for one bucket list bike.

In ‘84 fresh out of PW Botha & Sons I bought me a XR500RE with R5800 of my danger pay.

The bike didnt last long, but I had some fantastic times on it, including trips to Moz and then SWA.

So now, almost 40 years later I decided to revisit that and look for its younger brother, so to speak, the XR650L.

Similar emotions here. Same result.  Just bought a xr650l . Loving it. Had the 200 the 500 RE and have the 600 beast. The 600 is raw Similar to the 500 in many ways. 650 is somewhat refined yet archaic in comparison to modern thumpers, just the way i like it.
Good luck with your bike hunting.

Still looking for THE bike. Not many for sale at the moment.
I am without wheels this time of year. The result is I am spending a lot of time on Gumtree.
Nothing on here, sadly.
Ideally I would like a low km (<20k) bike with a bigger tank, desmogged & counter shaft sprocket done around R60k.

Easy, used to start my XR500 with slops, then tuck my surfboard nose under my backside.
