To buy or not : 2012 Triumph Tiger 800 XC?
« on: October 11, 2021, 06:24:59 am »
2012 modwl with Low KMs which makes it very attractive.
I like the looks but have no experience with the brand and not sure about cost of ownership and maintenance costs.
Prices and availability of spares eg sprockets?
Is it pillion friendly?

Typical Use case:
Cape Town to PE through Baviaans in 2 days

Ek weeg 120+ en is 1.92 so ek sit bietjie verkramp, so ek ry maar GS.

I have a 2012 800XC and I am very happy with it. If you do all the servicing at Triumph it is expensive but I have done most myself (because dealers are far away from Moz) and only taken it in at 45,000km for them to check valves and do an electronic check.
I bought it in Cape Town and with my wife pillion we rode it back here to Mozambique over 6 days on all the backroads we could find. No problems and quite comfortable if well loaded.
It is really smooth to ride with lots of low down torque and on the open road I do not cruise above 140 and it is quite stable.
Because I ride so many different surfaces from tar to bad gravel to lots of soft sand I just wish the front suspension was adjustable. I have played around with springs and oils to get a good compromise.
You will enjoy it.
You can never get lost - you just reach a different destination.
Every road has to lead somewhere - even if it is a dead-end.
