Ktm 990 Adv previous owners
« on: October 11, 2021, 02:20:12 pm »
Hi

Had no idea how to title this post.  I bought a 2009 (registered 2010) Ktm 990 adventure.  The seller informed me he bought it without spare keys and no key code card.  Hoping to find the owner before him,  perhaps keys were misplaced but have been found and kept for some reason.

I do have the names of the previous owners but donít know if it would be cool to just post or not.

The previous number plates on the bike FYN212FS and KKN177NW

The bike has a wild dog sticker on, seller told me it was on the bike when he bought it,  hence me posting here

Did all 990 have coded keys?
If so on my 07s i also dont have a card or red key. But only wires i find is at the ignition switch no key reader.

2009+ are coded.
It's the end of the road as we know it and I feel fine.

Not the biggest problem as I can order a new set as I didnít pay a crazy price for this bikeÖ. But still would rather spend that bucks on farkles

Eish, was in the same boat, you need it to code a new key, it's a R10k exercise so look after the key you have.

Have u tried going to a KTM dealer and asking them to check the service history? That may reveal who the owner was

I am in the same boat. In short: it's a costly fuck-up.

If you can find a very good locksmith, they can bypass the coded system and code you a new key.
Would cost a lot less than what KTM is going to charge you for an "official key"

Not all locksmiths can do it, but the modern ones, have the correct/expensive software and hardware to crack the code

If you can say which area you live, maybe one of the Dawgs, can recommend a locksmith

I went down that road Operator, visited about 5 locksmiths, all were very keen to crack the key but none succeed, it seems aliens encoded the 990 electickery.

It is possible though. Few years ago, BellCity locksmiths in Bellville (wester cape)
sorted someone out with a KTM
