The conundrum that is life...
You have to be absolutely smashed to have the guts to attempt it,
But perfectly sober to achieve any success!

The 2009 Dakar was great, with outstanding landscapes and quite challenging.

But it's a pity that the Dakar Rally claimed the life of 3 individuals this year. :-[

For info, 271 out of 500 competitors reached the finish line on this 31st edition: 54%.
113 motorcycles out of 217 (52%), 91 cars out of 178 (51%), and 54 trucks out of 81 (65%).

Spanish motorcyclist Cristobal Guerrero went into a coma after falling off his bike during the 10th stage.
Apparently, he went out of his coma with some sort of brain damage.

17 competitors did not run the 7th stage, but were 'authorised' to run on the 8th stage.  ???
Some of them even managed the finish-line in Buenos Aires and were ranked...

A spectator was serioulsy injured during the 14th stage, 7km from the finish-line, as a competitor ran over him.

The greatest sporting event ever and very nice when a local boytjie pulls it off. Fortunately there is still Motogp to watch otherwise I would cancel my dstv subscription. Also nice to see a Yamaha in between the mighty KTM's. The scenery was good and the girls prettier than previously but I hope it will come to southern Africa someday. Cant wait for next year.
Dont ponder about the meaning of life. Plan the next ride

Unfortunately Africa and our politics are a bit of a problem. I think it may be a while before that happens again. A sad reality.

MAybe they will just have to start it in SA, go to Botswana, then Zambia, then Moz' and then back to SA.

That would be a plan. No worry with Bob and his mob.

I'm sure that would work.
