Sure, it's never nice to hear, but this sentence "He said it is believed the biker lost control of his motorbike after clipping the mirror of a car before colliding with the barrier this evening." - makes me think he was playing stupid games.

yeah, not really sure if it was a slap or a near miss - if a mirror slap, my sympathies drop to zero

Speculation at best .. most guys clipping mirrors won't do it at a speed which will kill them. Chances are that he misjudged the gap if the car moved in the lane.

or the car could have been in the wrong lane, overtaking and not seeing the bike from front.

Lets be extra careful out there.
Heard last night that the brother of my cousin's wife also died in a motorcycle related accident near Bothaville, FS yesterday.  :'(
