Destination Unknown
« on: October 22, 2021, 02:21:50 pm »
I felt like going for a ride this morning but had no specific direction or destination in mind. I only knew I had to get off the tar asap. I rode a few kms out of town and then saw a gravel road on my left and decided to see where it was going (once again did not bring my GPS along). The road turned out to be quite nice with here-and-there some thick sand.

After a few climbs, the road started dropping with some nice curves towards the river. Closer to the river the road had some wash-out sections which kept the riding interesting. The river was bone dry with bad erosion everywhere. The concrete pipes through which the water must flow underneath the bridge were not in the correct position anymore, so if we get rains now, the bridge section will get washed away.

I crossed the so-called bridge and followed a twee-spoor road and later turned onto a gravel road which ran along the banks of the river.

To the South, clouds started turning into a darker shade of blue which had the promise of some rain. At the time I was quite a distance from town and decided then to make my way back to civilisation.

The first road I took became a dead-end at an abandoned farm. According to the sign at the gate, this used to be a Nguni cattle farm. Everything looked deserted and nature was starting to reclaim parts of the farm.

I turned around and on the way, I came across two more abandoned structures.

By now the clouds in the distance were an even darker blue. On the way I found two open farm gates on each side of the road which appear to remain open at all times. I saw a board attached to each gate and stopped to see what was written on the reverse side of the board. It was a notice to say No Entry, No Quads or Bikes allowed. Oh well, the notices were not visible from the road so I guess, I could have talked myself out of trouble if an angry farmer accused me of trespassing.

From here the road snaked through the bush in the direction of the tar road. By then it was raining towards Mokopane.

I got back onto the tar road and passed these massive electricity pylons on my way home.

Nice.
That is still one of the most beautiful places to just ride aimlessly on dirt roads in  :thumleft:
I should be there again for a week shortly, unfortunately in a car, but still nice.
Alcohol is essentially natureís Leatt Brace Ė with it, you might not be able to move worth sh*t, but you can take a slam or two and be no worse for the wear.

Yes, plenty of roads to explore and the CRF250L is so much fun on the dirt
