After a week of really horrid weather in PE I was starting to suffer with cabin fever and after the possibility of another horrid day of Holiday weather I decided I would try get to Nieu Bethesda but it was already after 10h00 when I left home so I would see how far I get otherwise turn for home at14h30
I jumped onto the Steytlerville Gravel Highway just outside of Uitenhage
I then turned off the Gravel highway about 40Km’s from Steytlerville
The Acacias were in bloom everywhere
This was a really awesome section through the valley
From here I turned onto the Klipplaat Road and a few hundred metres down right onto the Jansenville Road.
And then into Jansenville for a quick cooldrink
From Jansenville I took a road that followed the River toward Graaff Reinet
Seems I missed a turn off and ended up at this gate
U turn and back a few Km’s after checking the GPS
My back wheel felt mushy and after a quick stop I saw a puncture.
Damn the temperatures were in the late 30’s and I was not keen to fix punctures in this heat, so I pumped the wheel and rode about 15-20Km’s before I needed to do it again and took the shortest route back to tar pumped again and managed to limp into Jansenville, where I found a small workshop that helped me change the tube in some nice shade.
I had also lost my urge to take pics and would have to head home as it was after 15h30
The next hurdle was at the only filling station that had run out of petrol, with my computer showing 133km’s left and 160 to go I decided to try make it to Kirkwood which would be within range so I dawdled along at 100Km/h to Kirkwood
As you can see I made it with 27 Kms still available and filled up with just over 16.6 Litres.
At least I could stretch the bikes legs a bit now after a quick bite to eat and cold Coke.
