Magaliesberg - Naauwpoort area
« on: September 11, 2006, 08:54:07 am »
Yesterday I went for an early morning ride in the Magaliesberg region. First took the road past Avianto that leads to the Rhino Park ? man, all the gravel roads in the region leading to the Cradle of Humankind are being tarred!

Up, up and away...ballooning so early in the morning, must be so amazing.

Then it was on past Maropeng and onto the backroad that leads into Magaliesburg town.

The mighty magalies river?

Through Magaliesburg and onto the Thorndale road, which runs into Naauwpoort. On the road I passed a blue scrambler type bike, 1200gs and ktm950 who were also out on a scenic run.

The gravel roads in the area are in such a good nick, I was secretly wishing for some rains to fall (and some money out of the sky to sponsor knobblies).

Looking good!

Looking back one last time before heading for the tar home:

Damn, I need a good biking trip - roll on November!!!

Some nice roads there, Wino, pity they are being tarred.

Just been to Bloemfontein on business (flew) and stayed at De Oudekraal about 40Km outside - had about 7km of gravel - unfortunately we were in a hired car, but the road had some interesting aspects. There was also a gravel road leading to Bloem which I took on Thu pm. The boss was not with me so I could do this

On Fri we did a trip to Welkom and I was astounded at the number of gravel (probably farm) roads in the area - millions more than here in the Cape. Was just itching to ride some of them, they look in very good condition for fast riding - not much to look at from the scenery point of view. :)

classic wino, I'm in the mood to do something like this soon, maybe take a day during the week and just go ride alone.

There are great dirt roads around Atlanta, in fact the big rock we often ride too is there ;)
They hold the Bosveld and Atlanta Rally races in the area.

Some nice places to get 'lost' in - the voluntary kind.

Nice wino!
