Durbanville to Darling - Railroad Dash
« on: November 12, 2021, 03:59:37 pm »
So last Sunday I did what my mother always told me not to do. I met random people off the internet.
You see.. I joined a whatsapp group for Cape Town ADV bois and been following the rides and photos. Last weekend, I decide to join the group for an "easy ride" from Durbanville to Darling following the railroad.
Although it was not an easy road for me, and my skill level but I had the time of my life and really enjoyed the company. Young and old, big bikes and small bikes, experienced riders and then there was me.
As some riders pointed out, GS stands for "Geen sand" did not give me a lot of confidence when I hit a sand patch. I did not fall but gained some valuable experience how my F800 GSA with Karoo Streets react to sand. Water crossings had puckering a few times.

Instead of photos, I decided to take some camera gear along to film some footage and have created a small 4 part series of the ride.

Please give me a like and subscribe. The support goes a long way for me to continue to create content and take on these adventures and share it with like minded folk.

Thank you. Maybe next time we get to ride.
Next video will come either next Friday or, if enough pressure, in a few days.  :ricky:

Where do you okes jump onto the rail service road?
At Kalbaskraal?
Or earlier closer to Durbanville?

And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy."

Where can I find out about future rides? I'm very eager to learn about the roads less traveled around the western cape

Nice! Show us your camera setup.

Still busy working out the kinks on my setup but, will most probably do a video on it at some point.

Current setup:
Insta360 One X2 with motorcycle mount kit and selfie stick - 360 Video while riding
Garmin Virb Elite - Used for some helmet cam shots while I wait for my helmet cam to be fixed. Would be a second bike mount view soon.
SCS 11 Helmet comms and camera - Broken and being repaired
iPhone 12 and DJI Osmo for shooting video off the bike
Mavic Air Drone - For any aerial shots

On the last trip I only made use of the 360 as it is quick to setup and rest stops are usually quick so no time to take out all the camera gear.

It is a 360 degree Camera on a selfie stick with a bar camp at the end. For these shots I had it clamped to my crash bars
The stick gets edited out of the footage and gives the drone like illusion. I am planning to do a video on my camera setup as soon as my helmet cam comes back from repairs  :ricky:
