Baster voetslaan (Barkly Pass - Ugie) EC, dirt
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:13:08 am »
aka Lapa Munnik Pass

This short pass starts on top of the Barkley pass outside Elliot, and is a loop back to Mount Fletcher. It's a little bit technical it when it rained , but it's got awesome scenery.

Awesome pass!

Tricky when wet if approaching from Maclear's side.

Bit tricky/technical in certain stages. A little-bit-of-each-riding-conditions pass. Very good ride! 8)

Wow, what a beautiful pass. We did it under different conditions with the inevitable results. The road was frozen and there was virtually now way of steering the bike - it would slide off the road wherever the camber of the road would take it. Eventually we decided to turn back, thinking it was too dangerous. In places we could barely pick the bikes up because it was so slippery, one could not even walk properly slipping all over the place, and it was just the prettier one and myself
Thought so, tough behind a keyboard, but no balls.......

Lucky, if?

Nice pass, far enough from big centres that it's not too busy.
But worth a detour if on the way somewhere in the vicinity.

Must be very scary in icy conditions

My pics & info of part of my return from KZN bash

Did this pass the day after heavy rains. The mud was deep and slippery and I dropped my 1200 four times on the way up. It got very hot and it was hard work getting to the top with lots of rocky sections, gullys etc. The views were beatiful. Two XT660,s also fell twice each.
Look for a shooting star and see Lynda's trail and remember all the great places you shared with her,she will never forget what she shared with you and will show you that in every starry night .

Bastervoetpad Pass - Code RED when it's wet!

After having filmed over 650 passes, we have become quite blasÚ about what impresses us these days, but a few weeks ago we returned to refilm the Bastervoetpad Pass on a perfect summers days with blue skies, fairly dry roads and no wind. This was a massive difference compared to our washed out attempt during 2013. For those who have not yet conquered this pass, we now offer a comprehensive 6 piece video set, covering all the technical obstacles, which will provide any prospective drivers/riders of the pass with a solid idea of what to expect. The link will take you to our latest news page and from there you can go to the Bastervoetpad page.
