I've finally managed to put everything together, so here it is.

The meeting point was at Lanners Landing, Klapmuts. A full 110 bikes including a much discussed Vespa scooter.

The route for Saturday took us over Franschhoek pass, down Eerstehoop through the Van der Stel pass towards Bot River, and then tar all the way to Riviersonderend. From there we went past Protem all the way to Malgas, and back to the N1 at Swellendam to get to the overnight spot at Buffeljagsdam.

Along the road to Protem

Everyone getting their spot

Oom Paul se scooter

Day 2 was a bit more adventourous, with a water crossing, another water crossing turned into railway riding, a mud hole, and then some nice gravel for the final strech.

Aaah, there is a railway bridge

Following the tracks (and hoping there's no train today!)

Had to do it for a couple of hundred metres

The last to cross the mud hole, otherwise we would not be able to cross anymore!

Coffee in Robertson

End of the Scherpenheuwel road, we are heading towards Doornriver.

Lunch at Kelkiewyn in Villiersdorp

Hey Nicki, great ride report, looked like fun.

I must admit though I am more in favour of sending the ladies in to check the depth of the rivers...providing it's not to deep

Hey Nicki - nice report.  What tyres do you guys have on the KLEs...and what kinda kilometrage do you get out of them, and how do they handle tar and dirt?

I've put an anakee on the rear (I do like 95 % tar riding) and it's not that great offroad...

Tx
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

I've got the Bridgestone TW152, as I also do a lot of highway riding.

It grips good on the tar, and feels fine on the gravel as well. I've only done about 1600km on the Bridgestones so far, so I don't know what they'll give.

Another guy at work has the same on a Dakar, he says he got about 9k, but he looks like someone who rides it like he stole it.

Also had the great white leaping and taking a bite out of the rear, so I fitted a smaller plate this past weekend.

Nothing like a slick Annakee to keep you on your toes, or on your "ass".

Nice pics nicki!

I had a TW152 on my KLR for about 10k km, for me its a great dual purpose tyre.
I would fot them again, does not like wet rocks or mud though.

Another KLE! Welcome to the forum, doctori, please introduce yourself in the General bike related banter section.

It was nice to travel together in a smaller group, no need to watch out for passers and jaag to get there. I think I liked it more than the Saturday.
