News 24 reports:

World's first bike airbag
Author: JD van Zyl

Honda's first public tests of the new airbag system for the Gold Wing proves without a doubt that airbags saves lives - even on bikes.
The airbag tests were conducted by the ADAC (the German equivalent of our AA) and included two parallel tests on a Gold Wing - one with airbag, one without - being driven at 72 km/h into the side of a static car.

According to the ADAC this accident-scenario represents one that occurs frequently among motorcycle riders.

This airbag system is scheduled to be installed in Honda's latest Gold Wing model, which is due for release in Europe around October.

Installation of this airbag system in other models are not currently known. We expect that other manufacturers of large touring motorcycles will follow suit.

The results of the test speak for themselves. Not only does the airbag save the dummy's life, it also reduces overall injury.

The unprotected dummy ended up with a broken neck.
