So it all started around the table at our local drinking hole, the conversation, " any one been to Groot Marico, no what do you do there, well thats where some well known writer wrote lots of is stories about is name Herman Charles Bosman, and they make there own manpoer."

Well it was decided that the weekend would be the 16th Sept 2006, I decided to plot a offroad route which I would tacle on Friday afternoon.

Phoned a freind that has just aquired a VStrom, and he accepted, was also joined, by Mike on a 950 KTM and his son Gareth on his KLR 650.

So Friday afternoon we met at Pine Haven and picked up the gravel road at Tarlton crossed over at R509 and headed towards the R24, where we road on tar until we found the Buffelshoek road, good conditioned gravel and we managed to bypass Rustenburg and we where presented with some beautiful scenery.

On the N4 until turning right towards Stroomrivier, where Mike picked up is usual trip puncture, we all know that a 950 KTM handles so much better with a damper fitted, now the downfall of having this equipment is that when you get a flat tyre you don't immediately feel it and end up riding the bike and there by damaging the tube, so we fitted new tube and unfortunately the compressor that I had just purchased as a cut off switch to protect the motor which kicked in and blew fuses before the tyre had settled properly, our luck was that we came across a freindly farmer that assisted us, 2.5 hours later we where back on the road, we picked up a tar road that runs past a town called Pella towards Riekertsdam where we picked up gravel all the way to Groot Marico.

Received directions to our accomodation and downed a few frosties on arrival.

Saturday we waited for a few more freinds to arrive and headed off towards the Groot Marico Eye, now this was amaizing, we even managed to have a swim which after some gravel riding was what the doctor orderred, after a longer than expected stop we headed of to Zeerust for late lunch.

Left Zeerust and took the dirt road to Riekertsdam to get back to Groot Marico.

Once back we where treated to some of the local brew a perfect ending to good days riding.

Sunday morning started with Breakfast at the local resturant.

We made our way towards Koster via gravel, and then onto Magalies, where we all made our way home via tarred roads.

What a great weekend of D/S riding and great scenary with great top class accomodation.

PS. Excuse da spelling.
