North American Invasion - December '09
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:14:00 pm »
Hey guys,

Bunch of us Canadian and Yankees are planning a trip your way in December. In short we are planning to ship between 15 and 18 bikes from Vancouver, Canada to Walvisbay, Namibia and then do a 10 500km trip north to the Serengeti and back down to Durban.  Have a look at our website http://www.globaladventureriders.com/ if your interested. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated or if anyone wants to join us we could look at a reduced price in SAR since you guys would not have all the same costs that we would have. We will have a chase vehicle. 2/3rds of the nights staying in lodges, hotels, etc. and 1/3rd camping. Contact details are on the website.

Hi and welcome in advance!
Besides the fact that you are travelling at our hottest time of the year, the trip sounds amazing!  Good luck and hope all your hard work pays off.

LOL!!!

Calklr, thats hilarious, your first post is actually a welcome post to someone else, hahaha!!!

Welcome to you too, dude.

You also, Kanadoos, love the nickname... I assume you are an ex S-african?

All the best with your trip and planning.

If you hit Namibia early in December, you are bound to run into the Desert Run folks.

Should be a blast!!

Cheers

Thanks guys. Yes I know it will be the hottest time of the year, that's the whole idea! It's also the coldest time of the year in Canada (this December it was -18). We did Namibia in '06 and it was 48 degrees in the Gaub canyon - yeah baby. :ricky:

Bus. yes I'm from your neck of the woods. Formerly from Klipheuwel - just outside of Durbanville. Miss the farm life every day! What is the "Desert Run"?

http://www.bikesa.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=4&Itemid=72

Put together by BikeSA, one of the local bike mags.

There is normally one in Easter and one in Dec.

Apparently a moerse jol!!!

No serious, friend of mine did Africa few months ago. He's advice to me was to be patient at border crossings , very patient. He said that to be safe in your routeplanning , to at least give yourself at least one xtra day at each crossing. Something to do about Africa time.

AND to lose your watch and calender !  Looks like a real adventure to me  !!!!

Hi there Kanadoos.  Shall keep an eye on this fred, sounds like you guys are going to have fun (and rain, at that time of year expect lots of mud).  I'll be doing a trip (4x4) from Jhb to Malawi in middle of the year, basically same route as you indicated for that part of your trip, but in reverse.  I'm struggling to get reliable information on crossing the Zambezi.  Shall let you know once we have done the trip, maybe some useful info gathered by then.

Regardless, you are going to have the trip of a lifetime!
