Went to a B-Day party on Wednesday.... had a few drinks and some shooters and started talking to complete strangers...
One of the strangers I started talking to turned out to be Jman a fellow dog :mwink:
The other gentleman was JMT (not a WD yet) he was no stranger as we have met previously and shared some beers in Austria in the past :mwink: but never had the same interest until he bought a BMW650 :ricky:
Without hesitation I introduced Jman to JMT and half a beer later we decided that JMT's first ride was going to be the Elandsriver Road.
The Elandsriver Road was my 1st "gravel ride" ;D https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=23476.0
Ok so it was decided that Sunday the 15th Feb would be the date and that we will leave from Engen Linton Grange at 7am.
The weather didn’t look great but there was no rain... when I got the Engen JMT was waiting and before my tank was full Jman also arrived. Jman was on his Freewind with Trailwing Tyres, JMT was on his new BM650 with battlewings and I was on my Orange Monster with a T63 front and new Heini on the back.
I was a little worried about JMT and his battlewings cos I know what Elandsriver can be like in the rain.... anyway JMT was very confident and ready to go!
Here’s a pic of JMT just as we hit gravel
The road was graded recently and it looks like it going to be tarred.... very very sad!
Our first stop was just before the Sandriver
JMT's bike
JMT and Jman
On the way again and all is going well. JMT was riding the whole way with a smile
Even Jman managed to smile a little
As we got closer to the Radio Tower it got darker and soon some drops started falling... Jman was the first to have a bit of a scary moment.
Here’s one of the very very slippery parts.
Stopping after the slimy downhill to swop war stories!!! (was much more slippery than it looks)
We even had some water crossings, here’s Jman
Jman
JMT on his approach
It started pissing down about 10km from the tower.. it was wet very very wet
Here’s Jman
JMT
JMT did extremely well with his battlewings. Everytime we stopped I could hear a whooo hooo coming from his helmet.
We achieved our goal
Thanks Jman and JMT for the ride!!!!!!
