'Piss-pot' bike helmets outlawed in SA
« on: February 20, 2009, 07:48:31 am »
Copied from www.iol.co.za

Motorcycle helmets that don't cover its users' ears don't meet basic safety requirements, the National Regulatory for Compulsory Specifications has said.

NRCS spokeswoman Mirriam Moswaane said "pisspot"-type helmets (normally referred to as Chips, German, Beanie or Cruizer) don't comply with the compulsory specifications - in particular, Section 5
'Such helmets are still sold to motorcycle shops'
.1a that specifies that all helmets should cover the wearer's ears."

The helmets were sold under names such as Lafe, Stinga and Lynx and bore "misleading" labels such as "novelty", "equestrian", "not for highway use" and "not for road use".

"Although these helmets are marked for a different use or purpose, they are still sold to motorcycle shops," Moswaane said. "In addition, some of these helmets are fraudulently using the SA Bureau of Standards (SABS) mark."

The National Regulatory for Compulsory Specifications was formerly the SA Bureau of Standards' Regulatory Division. - Sapa

If you are dumb enough to wear half a helmet because you think it looks cool go ahead by all means

Maybe they'll outlaw jackets with tassles on them next. And chaps should only be worn by John Wayne, so outlaw those as well!  :pot:

1200GSA. It's like the girl you marry, reliable, maybe a bit overweight but you know she will always look after you even though she may not be the most exciting ride.

HP2. Itís like the pole dancer you have thoughts of running away with, you know at some point it will end in tears but you just have to come back for more, at times it makes no sense but when you get down and dirty who cares about sense."
