ps. should this be moved to a new topic as in 1200GS tik...tik?
My car pings at 3-4k rpm on the highway due to the low octane rating, the fuel map was designed for a bit higher. The performance is a little bit worse, but not a lot. So it can happen throughout the rev range.
My bike performs fine when you hear the sound....I've felt it ping due to being in the wrong gear and the revs were to low, it makes the whole bike shake.... this is not what i feel in the midrange revs while hearing the tik tik sound...I must add i am a perfectionist and very full of shit... so i'll investigate all funny sounds... maybe its normal.... It could very well be injector noise... i've heard the same sound once on a BMW car... 325i.... injectors went tik tik tik as it idled...

if its a faint tik-tik-tik it could be valve noise but i doubt it - you dont normally hear the valves unless the bike is at idle

Mine is stock standard (2004 model, 33000Kms) and also ticks a little. Been like that forever. It's probably normal. Did you change helmets recently? Could it be that you're hearing more (or less of something else) than before??
Yeah - but you can bob your head to the left and right and hear if it goes louder or softer...
Only got the bike two weeks ago.... all new to me...
The 1200 has a couple of weird noises. But the 1150 takes the cake. First time I rode my old 1150GSA I thought the bike might fall apart at any moment. But then again, I came from an Africa Twin, probably the smoothest-sounding bike ever built.
CS, kry 'n Ipod en goeie headset. Luister die musiek so hard as moontlik en begin worry eers as die bike gaan staan.
