what fuel your running?

i heard from a guy (he own a reputable dyno tuning place) that engen is the k@kest fuel - it pings easier than the rest

he said to (if possible) rather fill up with sasol or shell as its less prone to pre-ignition

whether its true or not i dont know $:-\$

I'm running Shell. Adding octane booster helps though.

Can't tell.... it only happens while riding... does not happen at idle..

You haven't dealt much with the big boxers have you ?

The biggest skill on getting a new (big) GS is getting used to the sounds so that you can ID those that shouldn't be there...

anyone ever fitted a power commander to R1200GS with an after market exhaust?

and does this noise only appear on bikes with after market exhausts or OEM exhausts as well?

if both then i would not stress - if only on after market exhausts then it might very well be running a little bit lean

Mine is stock standard (2004 model, 33000Kms) and also ticks a little. Been like that forever.
It's probably normal.
Did you change helmets recently? Could it be that you're hearing more (or less of something else) than before??

I'll make a point of listening for this on other boxers... Might just be a less than ideal set up and I did not even realise it.

The 1200 has a couple of weird noises.

But the 1150 takes the cake.

First time I rode my old 1150GSA I thought the bike might fall apart at any moment.

But then again, I came from an Africa Twin, probably the smoothest-sounding bike ever built.

The 1100 and the 1150 have the same base for the engine - I thought mine was about to have a main bearing knock.

It did that without using oil and without breaking from 95000km 'till just about 160 000km...
