this report is a collaberation between watermat and scribble being as we were there

it all started pretty innocently we all made our way there watermat riding up with the bm boys and staying over in burgersdorp myself and newly joined member fireblade and another friend Shaun rode up via oudtshoorn getting a little wet on the way eventually staying in a great little hotel in Lady Grey
nice little pub and friendly people

anyway riding through to moolmanshoek the next day , a very uneventful journey  arrived quite early and grabbed a camping spot before the rush
spent the afternoon  registering and finding the bar and meeting all the other guys from the site ,then supper and the official welcome also next days route briefings and a geological lecture from oom Loog who every time he stopped for a breath every one clapped madly in hope he would take the hint and go to bed it was not to be

so we wake one thursday mornin after a chilly night to find ice on the tent and bikes

anyhow  the days riding spent with funacide and adventurer, bla bla carried on straight when we took the first wrong turn and ended up at a farmers house so we didnt see him again till we got back in the afternoon .
a very normal mornings riding followed, me banging my shin on my crashbar after it healed so nicely from when i hit the car a while ago
getting twichy through a patch of sand
back at camp after lunch and a few beers in ficksburg  we settled down to a relaxing afternoon and then watching the skills challenge
very interesting the way some of the guys ride

early the next morning we decide bugger this for the dust and stuff we goin home as indirectly as possible a quick stop at the african stuff tent and they hook us up with a gps route from aliwal north to addo on dirt
Karel says not all the roads are correctly plotted so sometimes you need to look at the landscape and then make a call as too which way to go
sounded like fun.
after a leisurely packing up we hit the road
stopped for a juice at hobhouse

and then on to Lady Grey again for a relaxing night at the bar

Lady Grey at dusk

at the bar  this night Watermat enlightened us as to the reason for a chamois being an integral part of your adventure riding gear
but you can ask him about it over a beer sometime

the old church in Lady Grey
the road runnig past had about three special stages on it and that was in town :P
we had rocks and gravel , ruts and a water crossing  :D
after breakfast we decided to go and check out the dam,

 really beautiful
sort of got lost little did we know this was setting the pace for things to come

eventually found the dam

then we hit road for Jamestown

so onward and very scenic no traffic

a short stretch of tar and then into the middle of nowhere

two gps units four guys and no clue but who cares weve got tents and well eat whoever runs the slowest for supper

once again not quite sure if this is the right way its all good as long as there are no turn offs or forks in the road

the only crap thing or not depending on how you look at it is i had absolutely no clue as to where we were when these photos where taken

this was a large silver tower maybe for talking to aliens or something
although there was a telcom sign on the gate

so on we went we were told on these plains to look out for wild horses we saw lots of horses but they didnt seem overly wild almost like guys on bikes are a regular occurance around here

some mud only one person fell over and no chamios were harmed in the taking of this photo

at the end of the long stretch the road starts to go into katberg pass on the way into the top of the the pass a rock about the size of a large chest freezer had fallen into the middle of the road and everyone managed to avoid it ,,, mostly except someone who clipped the rock with his hb pannier and guess what ?straps hold a pannier on as well as what oem clips do

so we get to the bottom of katberg pass
and meet two old guys in a green bakkie and ask them where we are
the tell  us about the black bridge on the katberg pass built by Mr Baines
so its now about 45 mins to sundown and we need beer and bly plek
so they tell us were 17 miles from hogsback and some good pubs
and the old pass up isnt suitable for cars but great for bikes like these
we follow them to the start of the pass and of we go
its obviously not a very well used route the thorn bushes grow over the edge of the road but we made it through pretty easily but for one stretch

watermat sizing it up
and off he goes one shot to the top

and eventually beers  :D

and food

and the next day slab all the way home
saturday rating as one of the best days riding ive ever had by far

:D

Hoesit Briv,

Ja jy is heeltemal reg.
