Thank you all for your willingness to help. I'm busy planning my tour
This week I discovered a colleague was born and raised in SA! He gave me some tips for around KZN aswell.

My first stop will be in
Graskop or Sabie (1 day riding from Pretoria to Graskop/Sabie)
from there I can:
 visit Kruger NP
Make a trip to Gods Window, Blyde Rivier Canyon, Berlin/Lisbon Waterfalls etc.
Go rafting or something like that

Hluhluwe in 2 days (route tips anyone?). Around 11/12 juni.
Imfolozi / Hluhluwe NP (couple of days, around 13-15 juni)
Durban / Pietermaritzburg (around 16 juni)
- Valley of 1000 hills tour, route tips anyone? (17 june)

From there roughly I can choose (depending on weather and wether I have companionship):
- Perhaps around Lesotho and Drakensber around KZN
- On to Eastern Cape

Lesotho/KZN

No ideas yet

Eastern Cape route:

-  Mthatha
-  East London
-  Port Elizabeth
-  Knysna
- Oudtshoorn
- Beaufort West
- Back in 2 days to Pretoria

From Mphumalanga (your first destination), you can go to KwaZula-Natal through Swaziland maybe. Do a search in the Ride Report section on trips through Swaziland)

Eastern Cape section. Lots of nice areas. Do a search on Rhodes, McClear, Barkley-East, Hogsback. In the Eastern-Cape below Lesotho. It contains the highest pass in SA (Naude's Neck), various other passes (Lundeans Neck) etc. It is en-route to/from Lesotho.

He who angers you, controls you.

Hey darkhelemt , will u have time for beer?

Sure, if you have any in SA...  ;D

i am belgian and consider myself a bit of a connosiouer of fine beer. The ZA beer is amongst the best in the world for mass produced beer ...and its cheap cheap which is always a good thing  :ricky:

the Belgians certainly know their beer!
Most of the time I drink local beers, instead of Heineken or Carlsberg

Most game reserves don't allow bikes, because there are Lions and other dangerous creatures. Plan your route accordingly. If you want to do some game driving, I suggest you go for a guided tour. You can rent a car, but the guides know where to find the animals so you see more.

There are lots of farm animals in the rural areas, they walk around freely and there are often no fences. A big part of the country is savanna land, so you don't see goats and sheep in the tall grass.

From Lesotho, I would suggest Port St Johns, book into the Jungle Monkey backpackers and have a JOL.

SA has a lot to offer, I'm sure you will have a good time :thumleft: O0

Well, just tried booking at the Mpila camp in the Imfolozi/HluHluwe NP, but fully booked already... :(
THat was my best 'budget' option

Anyone have a suggestion how to visit the park with some walks and/or gamedrives?
Is it advisable to book just a gamedrive with no accomodation? (staying outside the park)

Hi DH,

We visited this area a while back.  See  http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=23133.0

This is great riding country, I think you'll love it!

If you do come past Joburg, let us know so that we can discuss this whole beer issue that's been rearing its ugly head throughout this thread... Over a beer, of course.  :)

Where did you do the ultralight fly-thingie? Wat's the cost?
Looks marvelous to see the landscape from the air!

Meanwhile june is getting closer
I gathered most of my things and made a document with all your tips, accomodationadresses, phonenumbers.

A month back, I did a short tour in the German Eiffel (where the infamous Nordschleife is situated) with 8 different '09 models of Honda.
Was a great ride. I rode the Transalp aswell as the Varadero. To bad I wasnt able to rent the Transalp around Pretoria, because i loved it. Especially the engine.

One more week and I'll be on a bike in SA! :)

We are riding the coast from the 11th till 27th June.  Welcome to hook up with us if you want.  Look under planning a ride page and under the Lighthouse Tour, there is an Excel spread with our itinerary. Careful of the snow up in Lesotho and upper Eastern Cape.  Not just the cold, its the black ice that is dangerous.  Be careful of sweeps that you see are in shadow for most of the day!  Ride well, have fun and welcome to SA!
I'd give my right hand to be ambidextrous!

Well on my way now since the 8th.

Had a warm welkom bij the Berman family who run the Sama Tours business.

The weather hasnt been good to me around Mpumalanga. Gods view was foggy so no view at all :)
Up untill now I've seen very little bikers. Aparently I just missed a big gathering in Graskop where I was staying.

I headed south now to Swaziland. Am in Mbabane now. I took the Piggs Peak pass to get hear. It was very slippery and tricky at times but I managed to get through. Tomorrow I will probably head out to SA again.
Hopefully the weather will have cleared up by then.

Have a SA SIM card now, so I'll probably give you guys a ring when I'm in the neighboorhood!

DH... I really hope the weather clears for the rest of your stay in SA. This is very unseasonal for the country to be having such wet weather so far inland.

Sounds you're not that far at the moment! I arrived in St. Lucia today.

Thank you very much for the offer, but by the time I leave St. Lucia, you'll be too far ahead of me.
I allready have a visit planned to the Hluhluwe park for sunday...

So much to do, so many things to choose from, so little time :)

We'll I finally managed to get moving again. In the Ezulwini valley I had some bike trouble. The temperature light came on. I managed to make it to Manzini. There is Carson a BMW dealer. They found out what it was, fan switch was broke. That caused the overheating.
Replacement part wouldnt be in until monday. Wayne, the BMW connaisseur at Carson was very friendly and knowledgable about the bike.

I called Sama Tours and they said they'll provide me with a new bike. Tomorrow morning they arrived and we swapped bikes. What a great service!
Now I've arrived in St Lucia.
I called Chicco who provided me with some good information and even set me up a place at Avalon Guesthouse. Unfortunatly I just booked a room at BiB Backpackers.

Since theres so much to do, I think I'll stay a few days here.

Having a blast so far, and the weather is great!

Well my internet time's up, cheers!!

Do you understand the locals when they speak Afrikaans?
