Black Mountain Pass is west of the top of Sani Pass, about 10 km into Lesotho, on the road to Mokhotlong.
It is one of a handful 3 000-metre plus road passes in southern Africa, and the summit commands some awesome surround views.
The pass does not have any brutal climbs or drops, but snakes relentlessly upwards before topping out on the summit of the back range of the Malutis, and then dropping down into the Sehonghong Valley.
The surface is varied, ranging from solid easy to loose gravel, and rocky in places.
Altitude: 3 253 metres
