Freeeeeeedooooom day!!
« on: April 27, 2009, 09:46:19 pm »
Today was 27th of April. It was, well, still is, Freedom day.
This day was especially brought in for the biking community. It's there to celebrate freedom. The overwhelming feeling only the biker knows about....

I felt enforced to do my bit for the celebrations... :angel4:

Yesterday night I took a quick peek at the map and decided to do some unknown gravel to Kimberley and back to Bloem. There is quite a lot of options. But I did not want to do more than 400kays as I wanted to take it easy and take a lot of pics on my way.

I headed out on the Petrusburg road this morning. And then did the right thing and turned right on a gravelroad to De Brug. De Brug is just a silo where grain and stuff are stored.

From there the gravel moves along untill you reach the Kaal-river. Ja, like naked...awesome! At this point I took a left to go along two battlegrounds of the Anglo-Boer war. Battle of Poplar Grove and that of Paardeberg.
The road ain't good, but in biking lingo that means excellent conditions. There was a stretch that had these type of whoops. Made for some extreme riding.

The scenery was typical Freestate. Flat as ever with a view into eternity....pale and yellow graslands.

Yap Fender my man, I can see it in your eyes....it's freedom!

Like I said. The world was flat around me.
But there was the odd bushes and brushes along the road.

Just before the Paardeberg battlegrounds I made a liiiittle mistake with this T-junction and came in to hot....Therefor the skidmark across the pic. :ricky:

At Paardeberg there is just a few graves, nothing to inspiring.

This local dude came by with his tractor and trailer. The road is very narrow where the bike was parked and I was a tatch nervous that the oke could hit my bitch overthere. But he did not. Big up to him!

The freedom continued....

Just a kay or two from Paardeberg I reached the Petrusburg-Kimberley tar road. Luckily I just had to endure a few hundred metres of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman's so called " thank God tarmac". I then turned of to kick up dust again on the gravel towards Jacobsdal.

Twenty km's on this road I turned right to cross the Modder-river and head to Kimberley.

The scenery now quickly changed to more of a bushfield with loads of akasias everywhere.
Great scenery with a nice road all the way to Kimberley.

In Kim a wanted to munch something at the Dros....but it closed down since I was there the last time. I was so pissed that I "sommer" went to the nearest Wimpy.
A burger and mega coke later I started the Faithful Bitch and heade for Bloem again.

Time caught up with me and I could not do the whole gravel stretch from Kim. I decided to make up some time and went to Boshoff via tar.

From Boshoff I took a gravelroad again. This road goes through to Petrusburg. But you can turn from it to go to Bloem via Wolwespruit whitch is a farm with lots of bushes. Nothing more there.

This is a lovely road and you can hit the gas at some stages... :toothy12:
The last bit on the otherhand is quite ruff. Lots of potholes and nasty "sinkplaat". Got to hold on.

The road then cross with the tar between Bloem and Dealesville, at the Krugersdriftdam. From here on its only 30km's to Bloem.
Luckily for me, because it was already getting dark at this point... :o

Lekker Willem! Jy ken die agterpaadjies...  :thumleft:

I do not think that dying is a good idea.
Living doing something that you love is a good idea.
Living until you die is a good idea. If living happens to kill you it means you made a mistake, but we are human, and humans make mistakes, so go for it, enjoy it, live until you die, rather than not living for your whole life.

Nice William!

Have done quite a few of those roads myself.
We should ride together some time.
