KTM 640 Adventure Side Stand
« on: April 30, 2009, 09:06:31 am »
Does anyone just happen to have a side stand for a KTM 640 Adventure. Maybe able to get a copy made if you have one on your bike. Cannot remember ever seeing one on a bike around Gauteng.
Have bike, will ride.

Contact Adventurer. He sells new ones. Price really good. Works nice too. Only two bolts that needs to be bolted on your bike. Works with the centrestand.

Agree.

I've got an '03 model and bought the genuine KTM sidestand. Doesn't allow centrestand to be used.

I have one from bikegear, works with centre stand. Worth every cent.

I really think it is bad taste for oke to copy stuff of vendors or any company, they put in the time and money for research, advertising and then oke's copy it, just to make a few bucks. At least design a better one.

guess every one see it different.

Michnus, my comment was partially in jest.......you're right to a large degree. I, for one, would never want to do the forum vendors specifically out of business. If, however, a guy like Paul Symons for instance (PSP in CT), had to ask if I could show him my side-stand for the sake of producing them, I would gladly oblige.

I have no problem if a guy wants to make himself a stand or centre stand for his own use.

But it seems, and I often hear, there's okes with a welder and cutter and they will happily rip off vendors stuff. I am not talking just WD vendors, there's oke's ripping TT stuff, and it came to light there's okes in Cp and Durban, ripping Motech crashbars for the 800's and TT bars, bashplates and carrier racks.
And it's noy like they sell the stuff for less than 50% cheaper, it's only marginally cheaper and the quality is shit.

Thanks Adventurer! You da man O0 . The stand is on my bike already, excellent quality, perfect fit.  :thumleft: How often do you get something you've ordered before the invoice? And it's not like he knows me or I've got a thousand posts or anything. It's nice to be part of a community where you can still go on someone's word alone.  Thanks Adv!

the guys who design bikes are idiots - the KTM has no side stand and the Dakar no centre stand..... BUT, the less adventure orientated 990 and 650 GS and 1200GS - THEY all have both ???
go figure.
Thank goodness for sw motech and the likes!  :thumleft:

You can use mine as a template, I got it with my bike, and it should work with the center stand, but needs some kind of adapter plate to bolt on.

I just think it is a rip off paying R1200 for a part that will cost you less than 200 bucks to manufacture.

If anyone is interested in getting a new sidestand, let me know. Found a good source for R1400 + courier.
