New Cage Sales down 43%
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:19:38 am »
H,mmmm year on year drop of 43% on the cages in April, OK made worse by the number of holidays, but that is major!

Is the bike market reflecting similar numbers?

Look, you can't lower prices if the prices you have to pay increase... all good and well moving stock, but if you make no profit...  :lamer:
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

Why are they increasing their prices when their cost have not gone up? Rand has strengthened a lot against the $, metal price has declined, oil is costing next to nothing. The only thing that has increased is the combined greed of the motor industry and the gullibility of the South African consumer.

Guess how many have ever got back to me?
Thats right! NONE!
Triumph Thuxton R
Triumph Bonneville T120
KTM 990R
KTM 990 Adventure (sold), BMW 650 Xchallenge (sold)
BMW 1200GSA (sold)

So car sales are down not because of the slump in the economy, but because of crap service.

Thats doesn't surprise me.

The large number of public holidays :laughing4:

Supply and demand is something that is apparently not understood by South Africans. As long as people insist on paying R150 000 for an entry level Ford Fiesta or R200 000 for a VW Polo (as examples) they deserve the reaming they get :deal:

2nd hand cars are way overpriced in my opinion.

How can the number of public holidays effect sales?
I mean if you want to buy a car on Monday and you realise it's a holiday then you buy it on Tuesday!
It's not the same as going to a restuarant or bottle store - if the shop is closed then they have lost business for that day - unrecoverable.
Cars in South Africa are OVERPRICED!
I went to price an Auris for my wife thinking I'd have to pay around R140 000.
I shat myself when I found out the price - around R200 000!
I mean this is a smallish middle class car!

Now just to rub salt into the wounds ;D

I got a quote yesterday for a Toyota Landcruiser Prado VX (full house), insurance paid for one year, service/maintenance contract etc. All for the princely sum of...wait for it... R371 146.

Bend over and take it boys 8) What are the chances of the consumers standing together and saying : FARK OFF!!! enough is enough.

Mind you, the time is ripe for a bit of consumer resistance in SA :mwink:

ps - wanted to add: The dealers here are battling to sell their stock (even at the "low" prices compared to SA) hence all the extras offered with the cars. Me personally, I am waiting until they start dropping the base price of the cars too - only a matter of time ;)

I would have thought that a 43% decrease in sales would have indicated that the SA consumer is expressing his displeasure over the price.

Yep, just bought a 2nd hand Auris for R40k less than the new price and it had 1400km on.

Obviously the dealers would rather blame public holidays than their prices.
