Forgetting to turn on my headlight was never an attempt to defeat the ends of justice. It was a basic that was overlooked. With no cars/traffic in front of me I couldnt see the reflection of my light (or the lack thereof) on their rear bumpers. And it was 5pm, not even close to dusk yet. (CT & all...)

So pulling me off for the light, is it not this man's job/responsibility to inform me of that, seeing that its so unsafe and makes me less visible...? Should it not be more pertinent to make sure that my light works (he never checked) and not just get another soft R200 written for the day?

It just confirms that they are out to make money and not to make the roads safer. He could've given a warning for the light IMO.

Maybe the fine isn't higher because of that, but just added to the list of wrongs to make an impression on the courts or whoever needs to decided on a more lenient fine.
How can you justify such a statement?

Hey!

Mr Sinclair when he stopped me said, "I stop everyone with an illegal sized numer plate" He doesn't discriminate.

From a previous post and the way he treated that person and me and Bus, I gather that if all else is legal and your plate is not a miniscule joke then he will let you go. But if anything else is wrong or you give him lip then you are going to have to hoes.

I am defending him even through I think he has some issues with people who he sees as criminals.

You couldn't pay me enough money to be a traffic cop, its a shit job and no-one is going to love you. What do you tell your grandkids? But he does a service that on balance I think is neccessary.

I wonder where that road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. Appologies to Mr Frost

Well

I followed this posting from day one .....

Its has turned into something that you best describe as a BITCHING session

Bus was fined and the guy was rude to him ... So in the end Bus got the short stick ... Sorry it happens to the best of us...

All Bus wanted to do is warn all the WD out in the Cape Area as to make sure youre on the lookout and be Legal (LAW Wise)

As for Sinclair ... Well guys, nothing is going to change his views, its the person he is.. Deal with it !

So all of you bantering along .. How you gona sort him ect ect .... Wel when he stops you ... You gona take the ticket say or do nothing ... because if you do something YOU are going to go to jail.....

I personally .... DON"T Care ... As long as I'm Legally on the road and enjoy the freedom given to us all. If your Bike is legal (Nr Plates , License ) then he would not have a reason to stop you.

If you have a problem with the way he treated you .... GO see his BOSS !!!!!!

Take care be safe and enjoy the ride wherever youre off to !!!

Never explain yourself to anyone!
Because the person who likes you doesn't need it
and the person who dislikes you won't believe it !!

The facts are this:

Bus did not have a legal plate on his bike, the fact that he rides around with a legal one in his backpack confirms that he knows he is in the wrong.

His light was not switched on, another offense. However insignificant Bus might think his offenses are they are legitimate grounds to be fined.

By Bus's account the officer houding was kak.

Bus if you don't like the fines or treatment this officer gave you take it up with his superiors. It is attitudes like this that get all bikers stopped on Sunday morning rides. I have been stopped twice in the past three weekends, always without incident or nastiness, because I try my best to ensure that I remain within the boundaries of the law. Just last Sunday in Franchoek I counted nine out of almost thirty bikes without rear number plates, now why is that?

Easy there, tiger… I hope you are not referring to my attitude… I had no attitude til I got the headlight fine dropped on me like a ninja bomb.

And as for my plate… I said that my exhaust (Yoshi RS2) breaks the legal size plate off. I don’t want to spend R150 every 2-3 days of riding to acquire a new plate. Therefore I ride with the legal size one available for inspection/perusal. The digits are more than visible on the smaller plate, not much smaller than the legal one. I thought  that carrying the legit one would be a sign of good faith to anyone who is only slightly reasonable/approachable.

I was wrong.

And as for the whole breakfast run roadblocks… They know hundereds of bikes flock to Rooiels/Franschoek on Sundays, therefore they set up camp there and prey off the soft targets/hair-splitting.

It is also a well known fact that taxi’s are a joke when it comes to the law. Why don’t they set up camp right outside taxi ranks? On any given day?

Makes you think, no?

You seem like an intelligent guy, you either loose the loud pipe or get a metal number plate, quite simple actually. The famous place for taxi road blocks is in Durban Road next to the rose garden. I have personally witnessed them "targeting" taxis, as is the Station deck in CT. It is so ironic that as soon as one is caught breaking the law one starts to look at other peoples crimes and transgressions. Have u actually laid a complaint with his superiors, if yes them great? Let us know what the outcome was. If not, quit whining and pay the fine.
In so far as bikers being soft targets, I'm not so sure. On your next trip to Franschoek, RooiEls take a look at how many bikes do not have ANY number plates.
A while back the TC stopped the bikers commuting to CT along the N1. More that half of the bikers stopped were unlicensed!

Apparently there is a process to follow to formally get approval to fit a smaller plate - ignorance is not an excuse in the eyes of the law

Ja, seems we have a few aspiring traffic cops in our midst...  ::)

And if the naysayers read the whole thread, they will see that I never disputed the plate issue, and I stated it a few times already.

(Im talking about the headlight issue and his attitude only, not the no plate thing…)

Like I said, Im at peace with the plate story...
Im pissed at the headlight issue, which was the flick of a switch away. And he never once mentioned it until I got the ticket for it. Having to cough R200 for not flicking a switch is harsh in any language...
And this guy's general rotten attitude and way of treating people who pay his salary.

:BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

Vegeet nou asb die nommer plaat!!!

Ek moan oor sy attitude en die lig.

So for the last time, leave the plate matter out of this, its a side-issue!!!! Plate size is a dead horse and it has been sodomized to the n-th degree already. If you want to carry on with plates, please go and do it elsewhere?

And TBK, I am not whining. Maybe you should get to know me before spewing out tough talk like that... Or read the whole thread first...  :thumleft:
