Misty, Hel-Bent and I attended the dinner I posted about a while ago.  The presentation before the dinner was about the 2009 Cheetah and Wilddog Census in Kruger National Park.

I did not bother to make notes about the cheetah numbers, but found the stats regarding the wild dogs shocking.  The census was done by academics and the methodology Harriet Davies-Mostert (the presenter and group leader) presented to us, is as far as I am able to say, as close as you can get.

They asked the public to submit phtographs of wild dogs and they received 700+ entries.  Using these photographs they were able to identify around 140 individuals in the Kruger operating in 19 packs.  The majority of the dogs are in the southern side of the park.

If you want to read more about the EWT Carnivore Conservation Group, have a look at their website(https://www.ewt.org.za/workgroups_overview.aspx?group=carnivore&page=overview).  They are really doing a very professional job.

Misty and I had a chat with Harriet after the talk and she gave us some contact details of other people we can network with.  Harriet knows Robin Lines very well, and is aware of the Etosha re-introduction project.

I have shamelessly stolen this photograph from the EWT website.

As Red mentioned, we had a successful dinner with EWT.

I didn’t make any notes (blaming it on the fact that it was dark with no lights on)  :D but it was very clear to me that the Wilddog is in desperate need of our help in order to survive, and why our Calendar is so important and the plan to raise as much funds as we can for PAW.

So yes it would be great to see what we can achieve if we can get to work together with EWT – we have some great ideas for the future too, so watch this space and also, we appreciate all the support we have received to date from WD!  :thumleft:

Question - are you guys adding some conservation information (maybe small pics) about the WDs on the calendars?  maybe a good idea to clearly show the cause as well as providing some conservation info / stats / communication?  just asking?

Keep up the good work - makes us all proud!!!!!

No there’s no mistake :) it is the full intent, but we haven’t finalized the exact design and layout as yet (and the ideas you have given us are great, hence the food for thought)  :) , but there will for sure have to be reference to the cause of the Wilddogs - we will also have to have something mentioned on the cover, as this is the first point of reference when someone intends to buy the calendar, and they need to know it's for fundraising, etc but ja, all of these things we will be discussing and deciding on 27 June – meeting with graphic designer then

I never submitted the Non Profit Organisation application.  Is may be a good idea to have it done.  Do you get a valid fund raising number when it is done?  Can't remember.  Does someone know?
