TUGELA RUN---Long week end. A Must To DO.
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:52:45 pm »
Planned this Route over a year ago. Loaded it on Martins GPS and sent him and Derek on it last year---Hoping they would get lost and maybe find a Wife or something out that way and become Bums or maybe get a Village of maidens for themselves.

Needless to say he has persisted that we do it together and that winter would be a great time to do it. I decide as my birthday and Martin's was coming up soon -----to start planning.

Malibu and Tagsy joined us on this one.( You all know Mal) Anything for a Jol ::)

The Destination. The View from my Bedroom.

The Start.  Mist greeted us near Delmas where we hit the first Gravel Roads till Ladysmith.( Hardly any tar ;) the way i like it.)

The Mist eventually cleared up and for some reason Tagsy started riding slower when he could see where he was going ???

There was NO DUST --for most of the first days riding.
We had to split the ride over two days due to the distance we had to cover to get to South Coast Natal as well as we wanted to take up as much of the scenery as possible over the two days.
Some of the roads before Vrede.

Malibu enjoying Dakota's Dakkie to the utmost.

LUNCH at Vrede.
Group pic.

The food was great and quite a different place one would not think you would find in a Dorp.

Fueled up and on the Road again.

From here on the roads changed from wide open to narrow two track and sometimes single track and then again opening up again. We also started to climb more.

A Perfect day for Riding.

And the competition is NOW OVER. Malibu wins hands DOWN. HER TRACTOR IS BIGGER THAN Gunda Gunda's :o

And as for Tagsy  ???

What the Hell was HE DOING  ::)

Waiting for our newly formed TAG Team.

Martin asking --WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TAG TEAM  :peepwall:( Maybe they went to try out some NEW moves.)

Luckily we did not have to wait that long.

In the middle of nowhere. And all this Beauty arround you.

By now we were running bout of light --8 hours in the saddle :mwink: Got our Daylights worth of riding.

The last of the Sun from Day 1.

What a way to end a days riding.

The BEST Part still to come will post it later  DAY 2 :mwink:

DAY 2.

After a wonderfull evening at a Super Guest House and a Barmaid that could not Add properly --Or Total up the Bill Properly we set off to do another 8 hour stint in the saddles along the Tugela and towards our destination.

Tagsy was not feeling to well and decided to hit the tar to the coast.

The scenery changed dramatically from reasonably flat to Mountain passes and roads that were DS Heaven to ride.

Enjoying a quite moment next to the Tugela River.

WHAT do You Mean ? You had it Last ::)

One of the many villages along the way.

Overlooking the Valley.

The Tugela now way below us.

Bug Removal Time from our Visors.

And of Course---a VIEW that will keep me coming back for more and more.

LOOK where your bike was Dakota. ::)

We also did a VERY Twisty section of the Black stuff and Malibu for some reason wanted to finish D's Tires OFF.

After a long day in the saddle we arrived and decide to have supper close to where we would be staying.

Even Mrs Blazes who went down by cage joined in and Martin and i had to seperate Malibu and my wife--Met for the first time and already partners in Crime :peepwall:

All in all one of the best rides i have had. The route had everything in it and not once did i get bored or too laid back not to concentrate. Kept us all on our toes. Very Scenic even although it is winter now.

And as for Malibu. All i can say is  :thumleft: You are going to give carrots to a lot of Guys with the way your riding has improved--------TIME in the Saddle. ;)

Will definately be doing a couple more this year.

Not one toll gate. Distance down--Just under 900km.

Hope you are feeling better P.

Was great to have you along---All you need is some more time in the saddle. And of course someone to help you set up the suspension on your bike ;)

Aaaaah!  Those pics just make me want to get right back on and ride again!   8)

And thanks Blazes, the run was great!  Was an absolute pleasure being with you guys.

I was pretty surprised how well I handled the time and the distances in the saddle without discomfort at all!

Hey guys!
It's such a pity that you left a day earlier than I thought you were! We did nearly the same route, but over Kranskop, and followed bush-track down to Mandini! JonW and I then came back via Mapumulo through to the back of Fawn Lees! As you say Blazes...the scenery there is absolutely stunning! Good time of the year to ride now too!
Catch you on the next one, and will be happy to play guide!
You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog
will give you a look that says, ??My God, you're right!
I never would've thought of that!?
